In a move to deflect attention from April’s horrific job report and push even more progressive policies on the nation, President Joe Biden is taking a victory lap after the release of the May 2021 jobs report, even though the number of jobs added was significantly fewer than analysts predicted.
Economists had expected the economy to grow by about 675,000 jobs, but fewer than 560,000 were added, an occurrence that would have had mainstream news media outlets blaming former President Donald Trump once again. In spite of the failure, President Biden had no problem telling journalists that the economy had made “historic progress.”
This comes as the administration is pushing Congress to spend even more money via a massive infrastructure bill that has more to do with progressive talking points than any roads or bridges. Naturally, most mainstream news outlets dutifully deferred to the doddering commander-in-chief, echoing exactly what the White House wants.
While the President touts his failed policies for getting people back to work, no-one has bothered to mention the obvious facts. One of the main reasons why unemployment numbers are going down could be the fact that Republican governors throughout the nation have halted federal aid to unemployed workers unwilling to look for a job while worker shortages run high. Most mainstream news outlets have also ignored the fact that labor shortages are ongoing in many places even though employers are actually raising wages.
Furthermore, the jobs report also exposed the Democrat talking point that “women can’t go to work because they don’t have access to daycare or school” as a lie. We’re seeing a massive resurgence in the number of women returning to the workplace. Again, this isn’t thanks to Democrats who kowtowed to public school teacher unions to keep schools closed for in-person learning as long as possible. Conservative governors who ordered schools to reopen for in-person learning are responsible.
While the economy is in better shape than it has been for the last year, the truth is that the gains are disappointing and the progress that has been made cannot be attributed to President Biden’s policies. Contrary to what the President asserts, spending trillions more on economic “aid” would not improve the economy, but rather lead to rapid inflation and the shuttering of businesses.
Mainstream news media outlets may be willing to ignore the obvious; however, the truth of the matter is already apparent to those hit hard by rising inflation and labor shortages. This includes aspiring homeowners, small business owners, and ordinary individuals who struggle with the rising cost of groceries on every single visit to a local supermarket or grocery store.
How much more of this the country can take remains unclear.
