CNN just shredded whatever credibility it had left after allowing Devan Cole, the channel’s breaking news reporter, to tell parents, would-be parents, and anyone else who would listen that it’s “impossible” to know a child’s gender at birth.
“It’s not possible to know a person’s gender identity at birth, and there is no consensus criteria for assigning sex at birth,” Cole said.
The comments were made in light of South Dakota’s Fairness in Girl’s Sports bill, a law that would stop so-called transgender women (that is, biological males) from competing in girl’s and women’s sports.
More than half of the states in the U.S. are considering similar bills. LGBTQ activists decry the trend as “anti-trans” while women athletes and conservative lawmakers say that it’s unfair for biological women to be forced to compete against biological men — whose strength and muscle mass give them an edge over their female counterparts.
For millennia, doctors, midwives, and parents have used a very simple method to “assign” sex at birth: they simply look down. A child with a penis is considered to be male; a child with a vagina is considered to be female. This isn’t exactly groundbreaking medical science…
It’s clear that there is indeed a consensus for “assigning” sex at birth, although the term “assignment” is not really accurate. Those who observe a child’s gender don’t assign it any more than a person who observes the planets assigns the planets to their moons and orbits. The observation of science is not the creation of it. A simple examination of Mr. Cole’s statement makes it clear that he has no earthly idea what he is talking about. However, the news media has yet to call him out on his comments, or even note that he gave inaccurate information.
Cole isn’t the only one who has no problem distorting the truth or even lying to further a particular agenda. The Democrat-controlled House of Representatives passed the Equality Act this year in an effort to force people to agree with a far-left agenda or face consequences. The bill would grant sexual orientation and gender identity protected status under civil rights law. Christian foster agencies would be forced to allow transgender or gay couples to foster and adopt children. Public and private schools would be forced to allow children and teens to use whatever bathroom they please. Doctors could get into trouble for refusing to perform sex-change operations.
This is the same crowd that utters the phrase “follow the science” like a cult-is mantra. In instances like this, “science” is just a buzzword for “believe me, or I’ll shame you.”
