Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley, one of the four far-left congresswoman collectively referred to as “The Squad”, appeared to support the disruptive demonstrations in America’s major cities this week.
During an interview on MSNBC’s AM Joy, Rep. Pressley spoke positively of the widespread protests that often turn into riots, saying they were necessary to put pressure on President Donald Trump and his political allies.
“This is as much about public outcry, organizing and mobilizing and applying pressure,” she said.
It was her later comments that sparked an outrage from conservative Americans on social media, when the congresswoman suggested that she stood behind the worst of what we’ve seen from nationwide riots.
“Make the phone calls, send the emails, show up,” Pressley added. “You know, there needs to be unrest in the streets for as long as there’s unrest in our lives.”
Naturally, the media is playing full-time defense of these statements, with the New York Post making a point to say that there was no evidence she was calling for violent demonstrations. But let’s take a look at what we’ve already seen — and what the congresswoman is voicing support for.
In Portland, left-wing activists tried to set fire to a federal courthouse. In New York City, police officers have been attacked in broad daylight. In Chicago, an already violent environment has been allowed to transform into a de facto war zone.
While it may be true Pressley did not expressly condone these activities, neither she nor any other member of “The Squad” has repudiated any of this. The Democratic Party at large has been almost completely silent about what the Black Lives Matter demonstrations have been allowed to become.
Of course, the media has been completely complicit in all of this. Even the way these stories are written reveal a bias. Violent rioters are more often referred to as “demonstrators” or “protesters” — when they are anything but.
