In the wake of bombs being sent to left-wing politicians and operatives, Pres. Donald J. Trump has called for a return to civility and calm between the two major parties. Top Democrats will have none of it.
A would-be assassin recently attempted to take out high-ranking Democrat leaders as well as personalities at CNN, the party’s propaganda wing. Targets of a series of pipe bombs delivered by mail included former office holders such as Pres. Obama, Joe Biden, Pres. Bill Clinton, and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Also on the hit list were former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, former Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, California Rep. Maxine Waters, actor Robert de Niro, liberal billionaire and political action donor George Soros, and former CIA director John Brennan at CNN.
Pres. Trump took aim at the media for inflaming hostilities between the major parties and misleading the public on crucial issues.
“A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News,” Pres. Trump tweeted. “It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!”
Since the run-up to the 2016 election, CNN has been on an unprecedented anti-Trump crusade never seen before in journalism. The president dubbed the network “fake news” and Americans have largely turned away from the biased and often inaccurate reporting. The network’s ratings have been in free fall after repeatedly misrepresenting the White House’s policies, actions and trolling out disgraced pornography lawyer Michael Avenatti 59 times in two months to attack the president.
Despite what many consider the one most divisive political environments in the country’s history, Pres. Trump called for all parties to set aside grievances and pull together.
“The full weight of our government is being deployed to conduct this investigation and bring those responsible for these despicable acts to justice,” Pres. Trump reportedly said. “We will spare no resources or expense in this effort. In these times, we have to unify. We have to come together, and send one clear, strong, unmistakable message that acts or threats of political violence of any kind have no place in the United States of America.”
Rather than heed the president’s call for trustworthy reporting and de-escalation of political tensions, CNN president Jeff Zucker doubled down on partisanship.
“There is a total and complete lack of understanding at the White House about the seriousness of their continued attacks on the media,” Zucker reportedly said. “The president, and especially the White House press secretary, should understand their words matter. Thus far, they have shown no comprehension of that.”
Other left-wing media outlets went much further in pushing for increased discord by trying to place sole blame for the current hostilities on the White House.
“Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Obama, Mr. Soros, and CNN have all figured prominently in conservative political attacks — many of which have been led by President Trump. He has often referred to major news organizations as ‘the enemy of the people,’ and has had a particular animus for CNN,” The New York Times stated.
In the wake of the attempted killings, The New York Times took animus much further by publishing a “fictional” assassination of Pres. Trump piece. Still, the president has stayed the course and called for unity and cooler heads to prevail.
“In these times, we have to unify, we have to come together,” Pres. Trump said. “Those engaged in the political arena must stop treating political opponents as being morally defective… We should not mob people in public spaces or destroy public property.”
Democratic leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi released a joint statement attacking the president rather than making any attempt to bridge the political gap and tamp down violence.
“However, President Trump’s words ring hollow until he reverses his statements that condone acts of violence,” the Democrat leaders reportedly stated.
Congresswoman Maxine Waters has been at the forefront of political aggression in the country, having told supports to harass conservative Americans in the streets. The bomb threats seemed to only fuel her hatred of Republicans. Rep. Waters tried to turn the bomb threats into a political football.
“I think the president of United States should take responsibility for the kind of violence that we are seeing for the first time in different ways,” Waters reportedly said.
In recent months, other Democrats have called on supporters to “kick” conservatives and Hillary said Democrats could no longer be civil. If they are still wondering where this lack of civility is really coming from, they need to take a hard look at themselves.
