Democrats Push 5 Impeachment Articles

While scandals and indictments pile up against Democrats, the Democratic Party is struggling to remove the one thing that bothers them most: America’s democratically elected leader, Donald J. Trump.

Three leading Democratic lawmakers stood before the House to announce five impeachment articles. The team leading the misguided initiative are Steve Cohen, Luis Gutierrez, Brad Sherman and Al Green.

“We believe that President Trump has violated the Constitution, and we’ve introduced five articles of impeachment,” Rep. Cohen tweeted.

The five articles are all based on the premise that Trump stands in violation of the Constitution. They are as follows;

1. Obstruction of Justice

2. Violation of the Foreign Emolument Clause

3. Violation of the Domestic Emoluments Clause

4. Undermining the Federal Judiciary

5. Undermining Freedom of the Press

While on the surface, it might be easy to see how a President like Trump could run into trouble in some of these areas, especially on the second and third accounts, a cursory analysis shows that the Democrats either do not understand the accusations they are making, or are simply grandstanding in order to give the appearance that they actually have an argument.

To begin, the charge of obstruction of justice refers to Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey. Democrats seem to forget they were calling for precisely this during the election cycle: when the bureau was investigating then-candidate Hillary Clinton.

The second and third accusations have to do with the fact that Trump has viable businesses both within and without United States borders. These ham-fisted attempts at achieving grievance ignore the fact that Trump has turned over his businesses to family members while he attends to the business of the State, and the fact that the American people knew full well that he was a successful real estate professional long before voters freely elected him.

The fourth article of impeachment alleges that Trump has undermined the Federal Judiciary. This is a plain backlash against Trump’s efforts to prosecute criminal elements within the government, many of whom are Democratic party allies and members. It amounts to simple resistance to Trump’s work to ‘drain the swamp.’ It would be hard to imagine that they would go down without a fight, and this is just the noise of battle.

The fifth article will be the most amusing of the bunch. It has everything to do with the fact that Trump isn’t treating the press like a special class of royalty as they have grown accustomed to being treated. This is plain and simple sour grapes over the fact that Trump takes his case directly to the people by posting comments on Twitter.

The article would seem to assume that organizations like CNN and the New York Times have some kind of legal right to not be challenged by the president when they ask leading questions and print obviously skewed reports. The mainstream media invented the term “fake news” to combat the extremely effective citizen journalism movement that has all but removed them from their seat of privilege. Donald Trump turned their epithet against them by calling CNN “fake news” on national television during an early press conference. The health of the MSM has never recovered from this.

“House Democrats lack a positive message and are completely unwilling to work across the aisle, so instead they’ve decided to support a baseless radical effort that the vast majority of Americans disagree with. Republicans are focused on issues the middle class actually cares about, like cutting taxes and growing the economy,” RNC spokesperson Michael Ahrens said about the impeachment effort.

At this point, should Trump be worried?

It’s difficult to say. With a minority in both houses of Congress, there is little Democrats can do to actually bring the impeachment articles to trial. Should they snatch a majority in the 2018 midterm elections, these impeachment articles will certainly become more of a threat, but even then there’s no guarantee they will move forward from here.

The burden of proof will ultimately be on House Democrats. Considering the progressive establishment has for over a year been alleging the president is just a couple steps short from being a KGB operative, and failing to gain any traction in the process, Trump may not need to concern himself at all.
