In a tight Florida gubernatorial race, Andrew Gillum has distinguished himself as the gold standard of corrupt Democrats. The Tallahassee mayor running for governor is reportedly under investigation by the FBI in two separate corruption probes, and recent debates show he is playing a liberal shell game with voters.
With a cloud of corruption akin to Sen. Bernie Sanders wife embroiled in a suspicious loan deal or the Clintons’ Whitewater mess, Gillum remains the focus of the FBI on multiple fronts. Reports surfaced that Gillum may have been on the receiving end of potentially illegal gifts even before he announced his Florida governor’s bid.
Undercover agents have reportedly been investigating Gillum dating back at least to 2015. Law enforcement officials posing as developers interacted with Gillum’s closest confidants. Since the covert operation, numerous Tallahassee officials connected to Gillum have been issued subpoenas. Questions are swirling whether Gillum is the ultimate target in the probe that is digging into the city’s redevelopment wing. The city has programs in place that steer private and taxpayer money toward infrastructure bids.
One reported person of interest is Gillum’s long-term ally Adam Corey, who received a lucrative $1.3 million taxpayer-funded award for a restaurant project. Gillum voted in lockstep with others at the time to favor Corey, who was under investigation by the FBI. Gillum severed ties with Corey after allegations of corruption surfaced.
But before breaking away from his friend, Gillum and other prominent city officials scheduled a face-to-face meeting with Corey — in Costa Rica. The trip has been something of a scandal as the Florida Commission on Ethics placed it under review. Also, under a similar dark cloud was Gillum’s trip to New York City with his brother, Marcus, Corey, and an undercover FBI agent known to them as ‘Mike Miller’ in 2016. The excursion was initially reported as a trip associated with Gillum’s position with the liberal-leaning People for the American Way Foundation. However, questions abound about money spent, including tickets to the musical “Hamilton.”
Upon returning, the Tallahassee redevelopment agency swung a vote to help the undercover agent turn a profit over a parcel of land. Gillum chaired the board that voted unanimously in Miller’s favor.
But Gillum’s potential misconduct does not end with the pall of seemingly biased city politics and vacation favors. These days, the Democrat’s family members are under investigation for voter fraud that trails back to the politician.
According to voting records in Leon County, the gubernatorial candidate’s brother cast a ballot in absentee during the 2012 general election, 2014 primary, and voted early in the 2016 general election.
But before casting his 2016 vote, Marcus Gillum swore under oath in a court affidavit that he was a resident of Chicago, Illinois. Compounding the apparent voter fraud crime, he used the Florida politician’s address as his place of residence. Adding more fuel to a potential voter fraud felony charge, the mayor sold the house in February of 2015 before his brother’s 2016 vote. Neither one of them lived there at the time Marcus Gillum voted in the 2016 election. According to the Department of Motor Vehicles, the candidate’s brother has not possessed a valid Florida driver’s license since at least 2011, a year before he voted in the state.
The voter fraud probe into the Gillum family appears to be widening. Gillum’s sister, Monique, continues to maintain that she is a resident of Florida on the voting rolls. According to information coming out of the Leon County elections office, Monique used a New York City post office box as her mailing address as well as the home the mayor sold in 2015. She also has a valid Florida driver’s license listed at a third address.
Other reports indicate Gillum’s sister lived in Montgomery, Alabama, and was a registered lobbyist for the Southern Poverty Law Center from 2014 to 2016. Reports point to Monique Gillum voting in 2016 and already in 2018 at addresses that may not have been her own. So, baffling is the appearance of corruption swirling around Democrat Andrew Gillum and his family that it dizzies the mind.
