The far leftists of the Democratic Party have come out in an attempt to leverage the razor-thin 2020 election results as an excuse to drive the party further into the arms of the radicals. This push towards socialist policies has been so alarming that even prominent members of the Democrat Party have become a bit uneasy.
Newsmax TV host Emma Rechenberg spoke with Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich to get his thoughts on various subjects. The conversation included the future of Nancy Pelosi as the Speaker of the House, whether the radical left could sway Biden’s policy choices, and the possibility of a guaranteed income in America.
Blagojevich, who began the interview by calling himself a “Trumpocratic, a Democrat for President Trump,” called out the prevalent shift of his party into something that he “no longer recognizes.” The former governor pointed out that if Pelosi wanted to remain in power, she needs to walk “a tightrope” between the competing Democratic factions. But Blagojevich admitted that it is the socialist members of his party who seem to be calling the shots at the moment.
“The socialist part of the party has all the energy. It has the enthusiasm. That is the part of the party that’s growing,” Blagojevich continued. “Just dressing up socialist policies and calling them something else doesn’t mean it’s not socialism. The Democratic Party is embracing socialism. That’s going to destroy America.”
According to Blagojevich, the chances of Pelosi holding on to her position depends on who challenges her. He predicts that if someone like Rep. Jefferies from NY can get the support of the Black Congressional Caucus behind him, then her job may be in jeopardy. Otherwise, Blagojevich sees Pelosi as able to hold on, especially against Democratic members like New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her faction supporting policies like the Green New Deal.
In a follow-up question, Newsmax’s Rechenberg asked if Blagojevich thought that despite Biden’s assurances to his base that he would stick to more moderate policies, was it possible that the far-left faction could sway Biden into adopting more radical ideas.
“Oh, yes, very much so. He is very swayable. He is not a strong person,” Blagojevich answered.
Blagojevich urged any fellow Democrats who believe that the far left programs such as defunding the police are dangerous — or that the Green New Deal will only end up hurting the American economy — to stand up and join him to walk away from the Democratic Party. According to Blagojevich, how the Democrats respond now will play an enormous role in determining where the country goes in the future.
Rechenberg ended the conversation by bringing up a recent town hall event where a member of AOC’s squad, Ilhan Omar, pushed for implementing a guaranteed income for all Americans. Blagojevich called a guaranteed income a “socialist idea” and that it was “doomed to fail.” He said that such a policy goes against what it traditionally means to be a Democrat and would “destroy the middle class.”
“The American people really need to take a good look and see what these Democrats are talking about doing,” he said. “The scary part in that caucus is that those socialists generally believe their positions and are determined to make them happen.”
