Good Riddance! Another Hollywood Exodus Confirmed After Trump’s Victory

Hollywood’s elite have made a pastime of threatening to leave the country every time their political opponents win an election, and yet, America is still stuck with them. This time, though, Ellen DeGeneres seems to be making good on her promise to ditch the U.S. for good. Yes, the former talk-show queen, worth hundreds of millions, is fleeing to the U.K.—and she’s “never coming back.” Cue the violins.

Dave Rubin and his panel on The Rubin Report couldn’t help but lampoon Ellen’s dramatic exodus. Rubin quipped, “She can’t live in her Montecito house worth a hundred million dollars anymore with all of her servants. She’s moving to the U.K. I’m fairly certain that the jihadists running the streets of London love lesbians.” That sharp-edged humor may sting some, but let’s not pretend Ellen’s decision to swap the freedoms of America for the restrictions of Britain makes any sense.

British co-host Winston Marshall, himself no stranger to Hollywood’s self-congratulatory nonsense, chimed in: “Please keep her. Things are bad enough.” Spoken like someone who knows that importing Hollywood liberals isn’t exactly a boon to the U.K.’s cultural landscape.

But it’s not just Ellen making a break for it. Liberal hysteria post-Trump is reaching absurd levels. Co-host Isabel Brown highlighted an ironic escape plan for the rich and fragile: a four-year, $200,000 cruise offering stops at over 400 ports to avoid life under Trump. A cruise to escape democracy? Who knew “resistance” came with shuffleboard and a buffet?

Even more ironic is Ellen’s choice of destination. In the U.K., free speech isn’t guaranteed. Brown noted, “Talk show hosts like Ellen DeGeneres, who are quite used to the protections of being able to say everything on [their] mind and to criticize the people in power, would appreciate our First Amendment.” Apparently not. The U.K.’s Orwellian grip on speech, with police arresting citizens for “offensive” tweets, seems to appeal more to Ellen than America’s robust freedoms.

The question is, why do liberals like Ellen, who preach about tolerance and freedom, constantly run to places with fewer liberties when the going gets tough? It’s as if they’re allergic to the very principles they claim to uphold. And while she jets off in first class, the rest of America is left shaking its head at another out-of-touch celebrity sermonizing from afar.

Maybe Ellen’s departure isn’t such a loss after all. For every Hollywood star that threatens to leave the U.S., there’s a hardworking American who loves this country and respects its Constitution. The real strength of America doesn’t come from pampered celebrities fleeing to European mansions. It comes from the millions of patriots who stick around to fight for what makes this nation great: faith, family, and freedom.
