Former Vice President Joe Biden appears to be putting himself on the other side of the left-wing protesters he so desperately needs support from.
In a recent town hall event hosted by NBC News, Biden attempted to reaffirm his image as a moderate centrist Democrat — as opposed to the hardline progressives that surround his campaign at every turn. During one interaction, Biden attempted to play up his relationship with police officers, saying that we need more funding for law enforcement rather than less.
This is in direct contrast to the protest movements like Black Lives Matter, which Biden claims to support. A core tenant of the Black Lives Matter agenda — which you can see on the organization’s website as well as on picket signs at nearly every demonstration — is the defunding of police departments. Democrat authorities including New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, as well as counterparts in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and many others — have been more than happy to kowtow to this demand.
This isn’t the only area in which we’re seeing Biden desperately try to veer to the center. If you’ve been paying attention to the endless barrage of advertisements we’ve all been subjected to, you might see a few familiar phrases in some of the former VP’s comments. Ads calling for a goods to be built in America, fair trade agreements, and a return to manufacturing have become commonplace. Does that sound familiar at all?
At this point, Biden is essentially plagiarizing President Donald Trump’s pro-blue collar rhetoric. This raises the question: if hard-left proposals such as defunding the police, the Green New Deal, and moving away from manufacturing are so popular, why does Biden have to pretend to be against them?
The obvious explanation is that the Biden camp understands that far-left policy does not fly in Middle America. Blue collar workers don’t want “woke socialism” — they want to feed their families. Unfortunately for the former VP, they’ve already been hearing this message for four years — and not from Biden.
