House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said on Sunday that coronavirus spokesman Dr. Anthony Fauci “needs to go” after newly released emails showed his changing responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The American people don’t have trust in Dr. Fauci,” McCarthy told the Breitbart News Saturday radio show. “Let’s find a person we can trust. Take politics aside, I mean we’re talking about American lives here.”
He’s not the only one. Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio wrote, “It doesn’t take an overactive imagination to grasp human infallibility, or to wonder why a coronavirus pandemic might first break out in exactly the same city that hosted a laboratory specifically studying this class of viruses.”
Rubio added, “Some scientists were cautious to remain open to a range of possibilities, but others, like Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, dismissed the idea that the virus could have come from a lab. It was a massive failure in judgment for a prominent public health official.”
The growing calls for Fauci’s firing or resignation follow numerous emails released under a Freedom of Information Act that revealed contradictions in the doctor’s pandemic response.
“The typical mask you buy in the drug store is not really effective in keeping out [the] virus, which is small enough to pass through the material,” he wrote in one email, according to Fox News. “It might, however, provide some slight benefit in keep[ing] out gross droplets if someone coughs or sneezes on you. I do not recommend that you wear a mask.”
Many documented contradictions to Fauci’s COVID-19 advice have been made. Another example includes his opening pitch at a Major League Baseball game where he was photographed maskless with others in an stadium where the game was played without fans.
Overall, the nation has grown weary of the nation’s coronavirus expert’s advice. As South Dakota GOP Gov. Kristi Noem said, “Fauci is wrong a lot.”
An interesting discovery can be made looking at open versus closed states during the pandemic. Texas opened its state months earlier than New York. However, Texas COVID-19 cases continued to drop faster that the Empire State. The social distancing and mask mandates appeared to make little difference in the overall numbers of cases.
Some conservative states that rolled back restrictions thrived during the pandemic, in strong contrast with Fauci’s warnings. Florida’s economy thrived after its early reopening, while blue states like Michigan remained closed for schools and businesses for more than a year.
Americans are now seeing more of the evidence and all roads lead to Fauci hitting the road. Trust is long gone when the same guy giving the advice is involved in the Wuhan lab in mysterious ways the nation is still discovering.
We need leaders we can trust when we face a pandemic, and Fauci isn’t the person.
