Although she is a beautiful supermodel, First Lady Melania Trump is no passive wallflower. In fact, she is an intelligent, articulate person who honestly speaks her mind. So in keeping with that, she told it like it is during an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News this week.
Mrs. Trump saw this a perfect chance to express her views on the media that has been so hard and unfair toward her husband.
“They like to focus on the gossip and I would like [the media] to focus on the substance and what we do, not just about nonsense,” she said.
Going further, she called the media “opportunists … using my name or my family name to advance themselves.”
As many people do, Hannity wondered how it feels to be the constant target of such hatred, nonsense, and outright dishonesty from the media. “Does it hurt?” Hannity asked.
“It doesn’t hurt,” Melania responded. “The problem is they’re writing history and it’s not correct.” She said she just really wants the media to focus on real issues and stop with the gossip and sensationalism. The First Lady added that she focuses on doing right and staying true to herself while following her conscience.
“I do what I think is right,” she said. “I know I will get the criticism – from the public or from the media – but I will do what is right and what I feel is right for the country and for the people. That’s why I say I want to stay true to myself and listen to myself and what to do and what is right, what is wrong and live a meaningful life every day.”
In addition to taking jabs at the mainstream media, Hannity and Melania also discussed the First Lady’s incredible personal story. Trump has come a long way from her roots in Europe and her eventual move to the United States.
“It’s incredible, especially when you think about your life and where you were born, and all the steps you took,” she said. “It’s not like you just end up here, you learn a lot on the way here. In my business, and fashion business, it’s a tough business as well. Here, the politics, it’s a tough business. You need to have very thick skin.”
As has been true with many women fortunate enough to be First Lady, Trump follows current events closely and shares her views with her husband.
“I follow what’s going on, and I give my husband advice and my honest opinion. Sometimes he listens and sometimes he doesn’t,” Melania revealed. “I don’t agree with his tone sometimes and I tell him that.”
Hannity then wondered how Trump would prefer for her husband to be viewed and portrayed by the media.
“That he is fighting for the American people every day,” she said. “He wants to guide them the right way and it’s tough because sometimes the media wants to bash and focus on negativity.”
Of course, some in the media did not hesitate to immediately start criticizing Trump’s interview with Hannity. What else is new? But kudos to First Lady Melania Trump for speaking her mind and saying what many Americans were already thinking.
