More information is coming out about the suspect in the second attempt to kill former President Donald Trump. There is also a new picture of the suspect that shows him or her slightly smiling.
Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was caught on the highway after he was said to have been camped out outside of Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club for almost 12 hours. He is accused of having a gun.
The strange man was hiding in a bush outside of a fence along the course when a U.S. Secret Service agent saw him.
“Along with a digital camera and two bags, detectives found a loaded SKS-style 7.62×39 caliber gun with a scope that had a “obliterated” serial number and a black plastic bag with food that Routh could have eaten while he waited in the wooded area,” according to NBC News.
The Secret Service agent fired shots at the suspect when he saw him, which made Routh run away, get in his car, and drive toward the highway. Reports are also coming out that say an unnamed woman saw his strange behavior and wrote down his license plate number before calling the cops. This is likely how the police were able to catch him so fast.
After poking through the fence with a gun, Routh was not able to shoot Trump because he wasn’t in his line of sight yet.
The record of arrest for Routh, who lives in Hawaii, shows that he is married. According to the records of his arrest, Routh was not drunk or high at the time of the crime. He is now facing federal charges of having a gun with a scratched-out serial number and having a gun while being a criminal. More serious charges are likely to come next.
