A new report from the state auditor of Mississippi says that the state uses over $100 million a year on care for refugees. Gov. Tate Reeves (R) of Mississippi says that this is because the Biden-Harris administration “intentionally failed.”
Fox News says that the study says there are over 22,000 illegal immigrants living in the Magnolia State. It costs more and more each year to care for them, especially to give migrant children a free education.
According to the report, taxpayers are paying at least $1.7 million to jail illegal immigrants who have been caught and found guilty of crimes and $25 million to send migrant children to school and $77 million to help migrants get medical care.
Republican Reeves blamed the Biden-Harris administration and the Democratic Party for making things worse. He said that the states “are being forced to pay for the Biden-Harris administration’s intentional failure to secure our nation’s border.”
“Their dangerous policies are putting Americans in danger and putting a huge financial strain on our country,” Reeves said. “It’s time to stop this now.”
He also said that choosing Harris for another four years would be a huge mistake that would only make things worse since she has already failed for four years.
“Kamala Harris clearly isn’t able to fix the problems that the government caused at the border. She has done a terrible job as border chief and is making things worse. Getting Donald Trump elected in November is the first step to protecting our country,” he said.
Shad White, the state auditor of Mississippi, said that the problem of illegal immigrants is “spiraling out of control and taking millions from taxpayers.”
Without solving this issue, White said, “Our public schools, hospitals, and jails will continue to lose huge amounts of money that we could have used to help our own people.”
White also said that it is hard to get more accurate numbers because schools are not allowed to say how many immigrant children they are teaching. The auditor used numbers from the University of Mississippi to estimate that at least 2,500 illegal immigrants children are attending state schools. Spending on English programs and Low Income Supplements has gone up, which is part of that equation.
