Barack Obama, the former president of the United States, will chime in this week in Pennsylvania, a must-win swing state for Democrats trying to turn the tide against Donald Trump just weeks before the election.
The first Black president of the United States will hold a gathering in Pittsburgh, the steel city, which is the first stop on his tour of key states. He will ask people to vote early in November’s very close election.
Harris held a town hall meeting in Nevada on Thursday, which is a key battleground state. On Friday, she will go to Arizona to talk to Latino supporters. But the White House said the vice president had also been part of a virtual meeting about Hurricane Milton, which hit Florida overnight and killed many people.
Trump slammed Harris and President Joe Biden for how they handled the storm. Biden called the attacks an “onslaught of lies.”
“I hope that on January 20 you will have someone who will really help you,” Trump told the people of Florida, where he lives, in a video message.
Thursday, Trump was in Michigan, a very competitive state, where he announced new details of his plans for the US auto industry. These plans include putting high taxes on cars that aren’t made in the US.
European automakers “send their cars to us, because we’re a bunch of fools. By the millions, millions, millions,” he said in Detroit, which is the motor city of the world.
“Okay, we’re not going to do that crap anymore. They need to follow our rules now.”
Trump also stepped up his attacks on Harris, calling her “dumber than hell.” While he was talking to the city’s business club, he called Detroit “run down.”
“If she is president, our whole country will become like Detroit.”
Trump criticized Harris for her views on the economy, even though US consumer inflation slowed down last month, though not as much as expected. He said that she and Biden were in charge of a “inflation disaster.”
