Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana informed Newsmax on Wednesday night that Russian President Vladimir Putin is in talks with the Taliban to buy the weaponry that the US left behind as Biden ordered a quick evacuation.
The abrupt pullout from Afghanistan in 2021 left behind not only over $7 billion in military equipment and munitions, but also American soldiers. Russia requires this equipment to support its own army as it continues to fight Ukraine.
According to Newsmax, the agreement involves recognizing the Taliban as Afghanistan’s legitimate government:
“According to General SVR’s Telegram account, which is widely believed to be managed by a former Russian intelligence officer, Putin is talking with the Taliban, which both Russia and the United States consider to be terrorist organizations, by offering to recognize the government in exchange for weaponry that the Russian army sorely needs as it tries to advance in the 11-month conflict with Ukraine.”
“The Taliban have equipment and weapons that are scarce for the Russian troops at the front, including those taken after seizing control in Afghanistan,” according to the post.
Banks, who was involved in the campaign to provide these weapons to the Afghan army so that they could fight back against the Taliban, saw this as another chapter in Biden’s great betrayal:
“This is really personal for me,” Banks, a member of the Armed Services Committee, said on “Rob Schmitt Tonight.” “I was in Afghanistan. I was a part of the effort to hand over military weapons to the Afghan army and police so they could start fighting back against the Taliban. To learn that all of those weapons… will end up in the hands of one of our most dangerous adversaries at the same time that we’re spending tens of billions of dollars in Ukraine to fight back against the same people we’ve inadvertently given our own weapons to, it just goes to show what a total disaster Joe Biden has been as our president, as commander in chief.”

We’ve handed Ukraine over $100 billion to pay the war against Russia, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is already knocking on Uncle Sam’s door, pleading for more. Given that just 30% of the money we provided them makes it to the front lines, you have to question what happened to the remaining cash piles.
Now, though, our own weapons will be used to fight. If the claims are genuine and come to fruition, the US has effectively equipped both sides of this battle. Biden’s stupidity is wasting billions of dollars of our taxpayer money, and it’s killing people.
Banks is correct. The end of the Biden presidency cannot come soon enough. Our adversaries are using his ineptitude in heinous ways.
