States Across America Are Dropping Fuel Tax to Ease Price Burdens at the Gas Pumps

The rising cost of gas at the pump is an obvious hot topic among Americans, and States across the country are attempting to ease the burden on consumers by dropping taxes on fuel.

Nationwide, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is $4.25. Only a year ago, it was around $2.82, according to AAA.

Inflation has been climbing ever higher since Biden took office, triggered by government spending and disruptions in the supply chain.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has added to gas prices. Prices surged as energy supplies came into question when the second largest exporter of oil, Russia, had sanctions and embargoes put on them.

Brent crude climbed over $111 per barrel after the European Union, considered banning Russian oil imports and peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, yielded no fruit.

Analysts have warned that rising costs in fuel could add a whopping $2000 a year to the average American families costs per year.

California Democrats are proposing to send a $400 rebate to every taxpayer within the state – even if they don’t drive.

Of course, with all things California, it’s always the most radical “solution” they can think of. Pressure has been on California lawmakers to do something about the rising costs of gas, especially since they have the highest prices in the country.

California, sits far above the national average, with gas per gallon sitting at a hefty $5.85 as of Monday. Some counties in California have it even worse than that, where the price is sitting at $6.47 per gallon.

Assembly members decided that instead of dropping the 51 cent tax they have attached to every gallon of gas sold, they preferred sending the check out, so those who receive them can use it how they need to.

Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsome’s solution for rising gas prices was to not introduce the additional 5.6 percent tax hike that he had scheduled to go into effect on July 1.

An analyst stated that the move wouldn’t do anything more than reduce costs by 3cents per gallon.

California Republicans, however, introduced a bill in January that would seek to immediately drop the gas tax and use the state’s $45 billion surplus, but California being California, the Republicans were unable to secure enough votes.

In Georgia, Republican Gov. Brian Kemp has temporarily suspended the 29.1 cent per gallon tax until May – signing a bill into a law on Friday to make this happen.

Georgia’s gas prices are below national average at about $4.11 per gallon and Kemp stated that his legislation would help to “ease the burden that consumers are feeling at the pump.”

“Though we can’t fix everything Washington has broken, we’re doing our part to lessen the impact on Georgians’ wallets,” he said in a statement.

This may take some time to filter down to the consumers as the tax is paid for by distributors, not consumers.

“It’s not an immediate relief,” Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Maryland has also dropped its 36 cent per gallon tax for a month. An emergency bill signed by Republican Gov. Larry Hogan, urged gas stations to pass on savings to consumers immediately.

Hogan said at the signing ceremony:

“As we continue to stand in solidarity against Russian aggression in Ukraine and as Marylanders face the impact of surging inflation with the average price of gas rapidly rising, this bipartisan action will provide some relief from the pain at the pump,” adding, “This, of course, is not going to be a cure-all.”

Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, has also nixed the 26.7 cent per gallon tax, saying “these rising gas prices are hurting Virginians, and we need to do something about it,” Youngkin said in a statement.

  1. I find it hard to believe only conservatives are feeling the pain at the pump! Must be the dems are finally gettin enough angry phone calls and messages, eh??

  2. The funny thing is those on the left have no room to cry here as they are the ones who voted for this clown show. See they are just as much to blame as Brandon.

  3. Don’t you think that it is time fore the Governors of the separate states to align and send a demand to Congress to roll back the mandates that the Biden administration has placed on domestic oil and gas production? The Governors need to unite and protect their citizens and those of all states as well as peoples world wide. Rolling back gas taxes offers some relief, but does nothing to solve the problem. When the USA is energy independent it not only drives gas prices down, but tge affect this has on the Americanveconomy and the world are incredible. The lower the cost of energy the lower the cost of everything the world needs such as food, clothing, housing, education, etc, etc! You don’t need to have a Doctorate in Economics to see the world wide inflation Biden’s energy restrictions have caused. Politically, his actions have also made the world more needy of Russian gas and oil fueling their war machine and their invasion of Ukraine. Governors must unite and force Congress to act!

  4. Sad Day in Heck…..When the States have to Drop their Fuel Taxes to help out their own People within the particular State………AND – BIDEN AND HIS CRONIES LIKE ALWAYS….DO NOTHING – AGAIN. ! ! ! AND AGAIN. ! ! ! AND AGAIN. ! !

  5. All caused by the Beijing- Bozo – Biden admin. & the cat house clowns. All the Scumbags need to do is re-open the XL pipeline, & drilling on public land. ( no such thing as federal land). If the Cat house clowns can send billions in relief to Ukraine, then they can get some relief to the AMERICAN people. Drop the Federal gas tax & state gas tax, along with reopening the pipeline & drilling. The states that have legalized pot & have casinos are raking in billions in tax revenue. Drop the fed. & state gas taxes permanently. Impeach for treason- Biden, Harlot Harris, Piglousy & all demonrat politicians. The U.S. will improve.

    1. You my friend are 100% right time for these tyrants to pay the price once and for all but instead of impeachment because he was really not elected and the 2020 election was in fact stolen, all involved need to be punished by the laws in our Constitution and that punishment is for all tyrants to be hung or the firing squad. This is the only way we show these idiots We The People are serious. This government and all the corrupt politicians have forgotten they work for us. I say let the hangings begin. But we also see most of our elected judges have been corrupted as well so we really need to clean house. Also they all need to be punished for crimes against humanity. The government is the problem here with the help from the evil lying media. Punish them all this is the only way.

  6. the price of oil has dropped but still diesel is $4.99…… because its HAS TO BE USED AND PAID …. goverment sticking it to truckers which in turn raising inflation which makes demo “LEADERS” happy

  7. It hasn’t dropped in Reno,Nv it is 5.09 a gallon and 5.19 for diesel. Thanks Brandon! This is not Russia’s fault it is in fact the lying demoncrats that made this happen. Pedo joe and his cronies. They think it is funny. America is losing because people don’t do anything they just pay this corrupt government and follow all the illegal rules the asses make. Time to stop and realize hey these idiots work for us come November we all need to see them all voted out for good don’t let them have a retirement they need to get a real job and work I say put them in construction digging ditches I want to see them do the hard labor I have done all my life and have a hard time taking care of my family. It used to be the pursuit of freedom and happiness to buy your home now people can’t even do that because these criminals in DC think they control everything I say to them wake up get out of your fantasy land put the unicorn away and start doing your damn job get the pipeline going again and start drilling stop making the people suffer because you think you will be saved by the NWO. Let me tell you, you won’t be. Wake up America and stand strong together we will win this because We The People stand with GOD ALMIGHTY AND CHRIST JESUS. JESUS will take care of us that really believe in him and GOD the rest will be punished for all eternity. And my brother said one day to me eternity is a long time too be wrong.

  8. When prices go up on products consumer use goes down on certain products if a person realizes they can use less. Supply goes up and prices go down. How do you like him now ballot counters? Do you miss Trump now?

  9. The price of gas where I live rose steadily at 10 cents a day. From about $2.19/gal to $4.69/gal. Now “good news” is that it is dropping a penny a week?
