Former President Donald Trump claimed in a statement that under the governor’s leadership, Florida has become a terrible place to live. Ron DeSantis’ supporters are responding by criticizing Trump. The former president, who has permitted DeSantis to live rent-free in his mind since the midterms in 2022, came under fire from a super PAC established to assist DeSantis’ presidential campaign, even though he has not yet declared his desire to run.
The Never Back Down super PAC, which backs Gov. DeSantis’ prospective 2024 White House run, has said that it will help former President Donald Trump with the cost of his relocation to California. This comes after Trump attacked Florida the previous day, labeling it the “worst state.”
Chris Jankowski, CEO of Never Back Down, declared that “Donald Trump has criticized the state of Florida, and we are going to assist him to leave through providing financial support for him to relocate to his beloved California.” Jankowski continued by saying that Trump’s exit would not be recognized because of the rush of people migrating to Florida as a result of Governor DeSantis’ success.
“As a result of Donald Trump’s scathing description of Florida as the ‘worst state,'” Jankowski said in a statement, “We at Never Back Down are going to assist him to leave by providing financial support that will enable him to relocate to his adored California, so he can live close to his best buddy Gavin Newsom, whom he adores so much and with whom he gets along with very well.”
“The good news is that nobody is going to notice when Trump departs because so many people have relocated to the state of Florida, due to the amazing achievements of Governor Ron DeSantis,” he said. “When Trump moves his Soros-fueled, trash fire of presidential campaign to San Francisco, where it can fit right in, the state of Florida will certainly be better off.”
According to Fox News, the super PAC only just unveiled its first national advertisement, “Fight the Democrats, not Republicans,” which criticized Trump for disparaging DeSantis. In response, the Trump administration claimed that DeSantis was working with “globalist handlers” and vowed Trump will always defend the rights of Americans.
In an email delivered on Friday, President Trump painted Florida as some sort of dystopian nightmare with a bevy of issues that Governor DeSantis was allegedly responsible for. An email from the Trump campaign’s Steven Cheung contained a statement in which he said that DeSantis has “left a wake of destruction throughout Florida” by spending “more time engaging in public relations games rather than putting forth the hard work required to enhance the lives of those whom he represents.”
As I mentioned previously, Team Trump’s action here is rather desperate. It’s just as ridiculous to claim that Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is a member of Mensa as it is to try to gaslight the country into thinking that the Sunshine State has degenerated into a hellhole under DeSantis’ leadership. This misconception is not only untrue, but it also exposed the former president to rebuttals like the one from Never Back Down and other prominent conservatives who support the governor.
Perhaps Team Trump shouldn’t be giving advice to the previous president if they believe this kind of attack will succeed.
