When Christians are being slaughtered by the thousands, silence is complicity. And for far too long, the so-called leaders of the Western world — particularly under the Biden administration — turned a blind eye to the escalating genocide of Christians in Nigeria. But now, under President Donald J. Trump, that silence is over. The United States is once again a country that stands up for persecuted Christians, no matter where they are — and no matter what the globalist media says about it.
Over the weekend, President Trump took a bold and long-overdue step by officially designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” highlighting the mass killings of Christians by radical Islamic terrorists in the region. “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.”
This isn’t hyperbole. Just days ago, Fulani militants murdered nine Christians, including a pastor, in cold blood. And that’s just one of many attacks. In April and June alone, over 140 Christians were killed in mass atrocities. In a country where Christians make up nearly half the population — over 100 million strong — they are being targeted with ruthless precision by Islamic terror groups like Boko Haram, ISIS-West Africa, and other radicalized militias. The persecution is systematic, brutal, and ongoing.
Yet somehow, during Biden’s time in office, Nigeria was removed from the U.S. State Department’s list of Countries of Particular Concern. That disgraceful move came in 2021, just ahead of Secretary Blinken’s diplomatic visit, and despite protests from the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom. The message was clear: appeasing foreign governments mattered more than defending the innocent.
Let’s be blunt — Biden’s foreign policy was a disaster for moral clarity. Under his watch, religious freedom took a backseat to woke diplomacy and globalist appeasement. But Trump is reversing that. He’s not afraid to call out evil for what it is. He’s not interested in pretending this is just about “ethnic clashes” or “resource disputes,” as CNN and The Guardian would have you believe. This is religious persecution, plain and simple — and it’s time we treated it that way.
While the liberal media downplays the crisis, conservative leaders are stepping up. Senator Ted Cruz and Congressman Riley Moore have both sounded the alarm, demanding stronger action to protect Nigeria’s Christians. And Trump is listening. Over the weekend, he warned that the U.S. could halt humanitarian aid to Nigeria if the slaughter continues. He even floated the possibility of military intervention, stating, “We’re not going to allow that to happen,” referring to ongoing massacres.
Predictably, the left-wing press is melting down. TIME Magazine called the genocide label a “right-wing narrative,” while CNN tried to muddy the waters by blaming “climate change” and “ethnic tensions.” But no amount of spin can cover up the truth: Christians are being murdered because of their faith. And the only people willing to call it what it is are conservatives.
Nigeria’s government, for its part, is offering a diplomatic response, saying it would welcome U.S. help — so long as it respects “territorial integrity.” That’s fine. But what matters most is that the world now knows the U.S. is watching. Under Trump, the days of looking the other way are over.
Let’s not forget what’s at stake here. Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country, and one of the largest Christian populations in the world. When Christianity is targeted there, it matters globally. As the church grows in the Global South, we must protect our brothers and sisters who bravely live out their faith in the face of unimaginable danger.
President Trump’s stance is not just morally right — it’s strategically wise. Standing with Nigerian Christians sends a clear message to Islamic extremists everywhere: the United States will not tolerate religious persecution. We will not bow to political correctness. And we will not let the most vulnerable be forgotten.
In Trump’s America, we defend the faithful. We fight evil. And we call genocide by its name. The world may not like it — but history will remember who stood on the side of truth.
