Trump Sends Shockwaves Through Blue Cities as Border Clamps Shut

(NEW) Migrants Crisis in New York Due to lack of Enough Shelter. August 03, 2023, New York , USA: Due to influx of almost 100,000 migrants since 2022, New York City is currently facing overcrowding and lack of shelter to them. The Roosevelt hotel where some of them are staying is now with no more space . According to the Mayor, Eric Adams, “ there is no more room.”

In a sign that President Donald Trump’s no-nonsense border policies are already making a seismic impact, major migrant shelters in deep-blue sanctuary cities are finally shutting their doors. The latest? A massive, taxpayer-funded shelter in San Diego that had been operating for more than six years is now officially closed—because the flood of illegal migrants has slowed to a trickle.

The shelter, once housed in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Mission Valley, is being returned to its original purpose as an actual hotel, not a makeshift hub for illegal entry. It was operated by Catholic Charities, one of many left-leaning NGOs that flourished under the Biden administration’s open-borders disaster. They’re suddenly very quiet now—Fox News Digital reached out for comment, but received no response.

This closure follows the earlier shuttering of another large facility run by the Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS), which blamed “changes in federal funding and policy.” Translation: the Trump administration is no longer writing blank checks for organizations enabling illegal migration. No more sweetheart deals. No more open-border subsidies.

For years, San Diego was ground zero for the influx of illegal immigrants, many of whom gamed the CBP One app—originally designed for cargo inspections during Trump’s first term, but repurposed under Biden to let migrants schedule their own entry into the U.S. It was nothing short of a border breakdown. More than 936,000 individuals made appointments to enter the U.S. via that app alone, according to CBP.

But that era is ending fast.

The San Diego Rapid Response Network, which managed shelter services for new arrivals, has gone silent. They admit they haven’t received a single new asylum-seeking family since January 20—coincidentally, the exact day President Trump was sworn back into office. That’s no accident. That’s leadership.

Border Patrol data confirms the turnaround: migrant encounters in San Diego are down 95% year-over-year. At their peak, agents were arresting more than 1,200 illegal migrants per day. Today? That number is down to 30–40.

“To say there has been a dramatic change would be an understatement,” said Jeffrey Stalnaker, acting chief patrol agent of the San Diego sector.

Let’s be clear—this isn’t happening because sanctuary cities like San Diego, New York, and Denver had a sudden change of heart. They were happy to roll out the red carpet for illegal migrants when Joe Biden was waving them in. Now, they’re facing political blowback, budget crises, and voter outrage.

New York City’s Roosevelt Hotel, another bloated migrant shelter, closed its doors in February after housing over 173,000 migrants since May 2023. At one point, the city had 69,000 migrants in its care. Now? Fewer than 45,000 remain, and intake numbers are plummeting.

Even Denver—proud progressive playground—has scaled back, closing four migrant shelters and consolidating the rest to “save the city millions.” That’s liberal code for: “Trump made it impossible to keep the grift going.”

What we’re witnessing is the end of the Biden border free-for-all and the return of a sane, sovereign immigration system.

Under Trump, the message is simple: If you want to come to America, come legally. No more CBP apps acting like Uber for the border. No more NGOs pocketing millions in FEMA dollars while American cities crumble under the weight of illegal migration. No more coddling criminals who break into our country and demand handouts.

This is what “America First” policy looks like in action. Results. Borders enforced. Shelters emptied. Cities relieved. Taxpayers protected.

The Trump administration isn’t just promising to fix the border crisis—it’s already doing it.
