President Joe Biden has not only bent the knee to an Iranian regime that makes him and the U.S. people appear pathetically weak, but even the oppressed people in the radicalized Middle East country reject the lifting of sanctions.
During the run-up to the 2020 elections, Biden became the preferred candidate of radical Islamic extremists around the world based on his promises to lift economic sanctions. Terror organizations breathed a sigh of relief that the financial chokehold former President Donald Trump placed on them would be gone. Iran — well known as the leading sponsor of terrorism — openly taunted the weak Democrat, and he still lifted sanctions. The Biden-run U.S. Treasury Department recently removed sanctions on at least three former Iranian extremists, including former National Iranian Oil Company officials.
“These actions demonstrate our commitment to lifting sanctions in the event of a change in status or behavior by sanctioned persons,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken reportedly said.
The move comes on the heels of the Iranian-funded terrorist organization, Hamas, attacking Israel with rockets killing and wounding innocent civilians. The unnecessary violence has already resulted in 188 deaths and 55 of those were children. Hamas went as far as to indiscriminately fire rockets into the holy city of Jerusalem from the Gaza Strip. Many believe the easing of financial restrictions on Iran will embolden Islamic extremists and make good on a promise to increase funding to Hamas.
In less than six months, Biden’s weak and misguided approach to the Middle East set the growing peace process brokered by Trump back years. Iran and Hamas would not have dared launch an attack during the Trump years for fear of massive retaliation. Extremists in the region raged against Trump’s approach because it left them isolated and weak. Now the shoe appears to be on the other foot.
President Biden comes across like a desperate and spurned lover willing to climb thorned rose vines to woo Iranian officials. The regime continues to enrich uranium in an effort to create a nuclear weapon and refuses to stop, even if Biden lifts all sanctions. Iran has never adhered to the lopsided deal crafted when Biden served as Obama’s number two. So wrong-headed was the Nuclear Deal then, as it is now, that citizens inside Iran warn against the lifting of sanctions.
“The regime spent billions of dollars gained from the (2015) Iran nuclear deal on exporting its totalitarian ideology by providing funds to terrorist networks, developing missile technology as offensive leverage to dominate the Persian Gulf and beyond, and causing chaos in the Middle East,” Iranian activists reportedly stated in a letter sent to Joe Biden.
Recent reports indicate that contact with Iranian citizens produced loose polling data that concluded 48 out of 50 people living in the Middle Eastern country are against lifting economic sanctions. They widely agree that former President Trump’s “maximum pressure” campaign “choked” regime efforts to spread terror. Reports highlight that Trump’s policies cut Iran’s reserves from more than $122 billion in cash in hand to only $4 billion. Those inside the nation anticipated the economic stranglehold would lead to imminent regime change and freedom.
Iran persists as the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism, human rights violator and conducts more public executions than any other country on the planet. Those atrocities will only increase as Biden bends to Iran’s demands.
