A recent poll by the Economist and YouGov showed that most people in the U.S. think there needs to be a “maximum age” to be president or even serve in Congress.
In the poll, people were asked if there needs to be a limit on how old elected leaders, like the president, can be.
Roughly 76% of respondents agreed that there needs to be a maximum age limit for the president. Only 14% said there shouldn’t be, while 11% said they were “not sure.”
70% of the Democrats, 78% of the independents, and 79% of the Republicans all agree that there should be a limit on how old a president can be. But the poll didn’t ask people to name a specific age that they thought should be the limit.
The poll asked the exact same question about senators and representatives, and 73% of senators and 72% of representatives agreed that there needs to be an age limit for serving in those positions. Again, everyone agrees, no matter what party they belong to.
From September 2 to 5, 2023, 1,500 adults in the U.S. were asked to fill out the poll.
It occurs at a time when the ages and mental faculties of politicians, Republican and Democratic, are becoming subjects of discussion. Democratic President Biden, 80, as well as Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 81, have both experienced public mishaps, such as Biden tripping along with McConnell freezing during press conferences.
The 81-year-old senator just lately informed reporters that, after freezing up on a second news appearance almost a month after the first, he has no plans to resign.
When questioned about his retirement intentions, he replied, “I’m going to complete the remainder of my term as leader and also I am going to complete my term in the Senate.”
Regarding McConnell’s health crisis, former President Trump stated, “I thought it was very sad,” while speaking in a July interview with Breitbart News.
However, I believe it’s unfortunate that he went to such lengths to provide Biden and Democrats with funding for the Green New Deal. They needed 10 individuals to vote, so he persuaded ten of them to do so. He did this repeatedly for trillions of dollars. I think it’s too bad. But it was a shame. It was sad to see that,” Trump said. “I think he had a bad fall, and I think this is a result of that. However, it was also disheartening that he had given the Democrats billions upon trillions of dollars to blow on the Green New Deal, ruining our seas and destroying our vast, breathtaking vistas and plains throughout the nation with energy-intensive windmills. So that is also a very sad thing.”
The poll results came out at the same time that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said she would run for office again. After her announcement, “She’s 83” became a trending topic on social media, which showed how many people were worried about leaders who were getting older.
Age is not the problem as many 80 year olds are very competent. Trump is still able to lead
Maybe all who are 80 are above should have a cognitive test to determine their mental ability to serve.
Anyone running for office at any age should be required to undergo extensive cognitive testing to make sure they are mentally able to handle the job. Much younger people can also have mental or emotional issues that would prevent them from making intelligent and sound choices. Biden is a great example of what happens when this is not done. Sad for the American people.

Age is not the problem with Biden -he’s a treasonous sellout, and has been his entire time in office. The age issue is merely another way the left is trying to stop Trump, who is the clear Republican candidate, Don’t be fooled by this false “issue”.
It’s too simplistic to just put an age limit. In Biden’s case it is more to do with mental status and recognition of the degree of early onset dementia. He has periods of lucidity and can be credible, but the periods of lucidity are becoming shorter. It does not take a medical qualification to see this! In his mental condition he should be receiving medical care and attention, which obviously in his position will be readily available but he should not be in any stressful position, which can only add to his confusion. In any normal position this could be construed as a case of ‘aged abuse’. His wife and his managers are certainly complicit in this. It is beyond comprehension that such a person in such a mentally confused state would be allowed to hold such a powerful position. Would this be allowed in any other position of responsibility in business or commerce? He has a nuclear capability at his behest! This is a global crisis!
Regarding age limitation, it is an individual consideration. The difference in mental ability and awareness between Biden and Trump is again obvious for all to see. This time next year, it could be that Trump is showing signs of dementia and Biden if indeed he is still alive will not be anymore able but with care and without stress, he could well be enjoying his retirement. There has to be a relevant and detailed honest medical and mental assessment at regular intervals on someone holding such a vital global position. It is not fair on the general public to be kept in the dark regarding such important matters, neither is it fair or humane for someone who is mentally or physically impaired to be used as a figurehead or Political puppet for the manipulation of global Politics or agendas. We all know that this is going on, it is happening in front of our eyes and only the deaf, dumb and blind can be excused for being ignorant of the facts. It needs to stop!
