On Monday, one day before the Election, the Biden administration’s Justice Dept. announced that its Civil Rights Division will deploy monitors to 64 locations in 24 states to “check compliance with federal voting rights legislation.”
The DOJ also reminded Americans that they may contact the Civil Rights Division via its phone line if they had complaints about “potential breaches of federal voting rights statutes.”
“Complaints about disruptions at voting places should always be reported immediately to local election workers,” the DOJ says. “Complaints about intimidation, violence, or threats of violence, at a polling site should be reported to your local police authorities promptly by dialing 911.”
Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Harnett County, New Mexico, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin are among the states targeted by the DOJ.
According to The Washington Post, the DOJ sent out monitors in 2020, but only to 44 jurisdictions, 20 less than this year.
On Monday, White House Media Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre advised Americans that the results of the elections in which they participated would not be known for “a few days.”
Jean-Pierre warned that tallying the results across the country may take days. It takes two weeks to contact every state, she added, “as you all know since you guys have covered this over the previous couple of years in 2022. In current elections, an increasing number of ballots are cast early and by mail. Many states do not begin counting ballots until after the polls close on November 8th.”
“So you heard President Biden say this the other night, he has been quite clear on this as well: We may not know all the victors of elections for a few days,” she said. “Counting all eligible ballots in a legal and orderly manner takes time.”
“That’s how it’s meant to function, and it’s vital for us all to be patient while the ballots are counted,” she said. “This is not only for all of you, but for everyone who is watching, and I believe it’s necessary simply to remind everyone that this is something that everyone should be aware of.”
