On Thursday, at least two mainstream media publications questioned President Biden’s viability in 2024 owing to his old age and ongoing gaffes.
The concerns were presented on the same day that the president would receive a medical test.
The media seems to be of the opinion that Biden’s mental acuity and age might damage his chances of beating the GOP nominee as reports circulate that he would begin a reelection campaign in April. One news outlet described how the White House’s attempted downplay of the challenge as a balancing act.
“This is leading to an emphasis on events that aim to play up the president’s energy, while also attempting to create a balance in his schedule of a guy who tends to make more mistakes when exhausted,” CNN’s Phil Mattingly wrote.
Biden, who is 80 years old, would be the oldest president in United States history if he were to be re-elected in 2024. If he were to run for re-election and is successful, he will be 86 years old at the conclusion of his second term.
Several Democrats are privately concerned that the party is discounting the problem and “moving ahead” to the nomination. “Joe Biden’s age is the top problem in his reelection campaign, according to several top Democratic operatives and officials looking forward,” CNN cautioned.
Biden has rebuffed suggestions that he is too old and unfit. Biden stated in October that his mental and physical abilities are fine. “I’m in good shape. Everything about me, both physically and cognitively, is still operating normally,” Biden remarked.
Nevertheless, not all Democratic politicians agree. Democrats are concerned about Biden’s ability to win in 2024 and lead the Democratic Party to success, according to Politico Magazine’s Johnathan Martin.
“Nobody wants to be the one who jeopardizes the possibility of a Democratic win in 2024,” Representative Dean Phillips told Martin. “Yet, in quiet settings, the discourse is exactly the reverse – we may be at more risk if this road is removed.”
According to Martin, “a Democratic senator recalled speaking with Jill Biden and telling her how her husband should be praised for saving democracy, intending to sow a seed regarding a one-term proclamation of victory.”
Focus groups and polls have mirrored the legislators’ worries, with CNN reporting that Biden’s age is brought up often.
“Many assume he must be useless or being puppeteered: ‘mush,’ ‘brain dead’ – ‘dementia’ is a phrase that comes up a lot,” one person familiar with focus group sessions stated.
Recent polling endorses CNN’s story. Seventy-nine percent of Republicans, 64% of independents, and 27% of Dems question Biden’s mental ability. Overall, 58% of respondents questioned Biden’s mental capacity.
A second poll found that less than a quarter of people firmly feel Biden is mentally well, healthy, and stable. Fifty-eight% of Americans feel he should take a cognitive test at the very least.
Biden has seemed lost in public at least ten times since taking office. Furthermore, he tends to suffer with furious outbursts when confronted with hard questioning, particularly concerning his family’s worldwide financial connections.
When a reporter asked Joe Biden in 2022 why Americans doubted his health, mental abilities, and stability, he said he didn’t know.
“I’m not sure,” Biden said. “I do not believe the polls.”
