Vocal feminist and women’s rights groups have fallen strangely silent on one issue that is impacting women and girls of all ages.
The inclusion of biological males in women’s sporting events and competitions is having unintended and far-reaching consequences for women and girls — and the usually “woke” left doesn’t want to talk about it. As high school girls lose scholarships and women fail to qualify for national titles when competing against athletes who were born male, women’s rights groups are avoiding the issue entirely — because their mantra of “trans women are women” isn’t working for athletes.
Instead, athletes that were born men have a distinct biological advantage over women and girls. “Trans” is already a moving target when it comes to defining actual body composition, strength and hormones. Some trans women athletes have begun to live as women, begun hormone therapy and even had surgical modifications, while others have simply declared themselves to be female and signed up to run, swim or play alongside biological women who do not have the same physical advantages.
Even men who do take more drastic measures and who do commit to living as women have advantages that can’t be wiped out in a few months — or at all. Years of testosterone production, longer limbs, more muscle mass and bigger hearts and lungs give these athletes a competitive advantage over their born-female counterparts. This results in uneven races — with predetermined winners.
Athletes that were barely making it into qualifying rounds when competing against other men are dominating women’s events. This means that women and girls who have been training their whole lives are missing out on opportunities, team placements and scholarships.
As these men continue to push women out of their own sporting events and competitions, women’s rights groups have fallen silent. Both Planned Parenthood and the National Organization for Women declined to comment on an upcoming lawsuit filed by three high school runners who missed out on opportunities when biological males were allowed to enter the race.
The lawsuit over fairness in women’s sports comes out of Connecticut, three female runners filed against the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference – which abruptly allowed male athletes to comete as girls.
“Girls deserve to compete on a level playing field,” lawyer Christiana Holcomb said in a statement about the case. “Forcing them to compete against boys isn’t fair, shatters their dreams, and destroys their athletic opportunities.”
While these three girls are named in the suit, they are far from the only ones impacted – two male athletes have dominated Connecticut sports in the last year, securing a total of 15 state championships once held by 9 different female runners.
“Having separate boys’ and girls’ sports has always been based on biological differences, not what people believe about their gender, because those differences matter for fair competition,” Holcomb added. “And forcing girls to be spectators in their own sports is completely at odds with Title IX, a federal law designed to create equal opportunities for women in education and athletics. Connecticut’s policy violates that law and reverses nearly 50 years of advances for women.”
Groups promoting trans rights have attacked this notion, and wholeheartedly support the rise of the biological male athlete in women’s sports. Feminist groups remain silent, torn between the usual stance of promoting women’s rights and fearing the wrath of the trans community.
