It’s hard to imagine anything more despicable than targeting elderly Americans and robbing them of their life savings. But that’s exactly what two Chinese nationals—illegally present in our country—are accused of doing. And make no mistake: these aren’t isolated incidents. They underscore a broader, unspoken crisis that the mainstream media refuses to confront—foreign nationals exploiting our broken immigration system to victimize Americans.
The two accused fraudsters, Jian Chen and Rihui Yan, were arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after allegedly scamming tens of thousands of dollars from elderly victims in New York and Pennsylvania. Chen reportedly conned a 63-year-old woman out of $42,000 and was attempting to extract nearly $100,000 more when federal agents intercepted him in Potsdam, New York. Yan, meanwhile, is accused of trying to swindle a couple in their 70s in Wyoming County out of their entire $20,000 life savings.
“This HSI Massena investigation underscores HSI’s commitment to disrupting and dismantling transnational criminal organizations and groups intent on exploiting our vulnerable communities,” said HSI Buffalo Special Agent in Charge Erin Keegan. That’s exactly right. These aren’t just two bad apples—they’re part of a broader, growing threat of foreign criminals using our immigration loopholes to target Americans.
Let’s be clear: these individuals aren’t “undocumented workers” or “asylum seekers.” They’re illegal aliens—criminals who entered this country unlawfully and proceeded to victimize our most defenseless citizens. And yet for years, under the Biden administration, our borders were flung wide open to precisely this kind of abuse. In fact, as Fox News reported last year, the fastest-growing group of illegal migrants crossing our southern border wasn’t coming from Mexico or Central America—it was coming from China.
That’s right: while the media hyperventilated about walls and rhetoric, thousands of Chinese nationals were quietly slipping across our border. And you don’t have to be a national security expert to see the potential danger in that. As ICE Deputy Field Office Director Joseph Freden put it, “It takes a real dirtbag to prey on our most vulnerable community members by attempting to swindle them out of their hard-earned savings.” He added, “We remain committed to the arrest and removal of aliens who undermine the safety of our communities and the integrity of our laws.”
Thankfully, we finally have an administration that takes this threat seriously. Since returning to office in January, President Donald Trump has launched a sweeping crackdown on criminal aliens, prioritizing the arrest and removal of those who pose a risk to public safety. Under Trump’s leadership, ICE is no longer handcuffed by political correctness or bureaucratic red tape. They are doing what they were created to do: protect the American people.
Contrast that with what we saw under Biden. Sanctuary cities, catch-and-release policies, and endless excuses for illegal behavior. The left told us these were just “dreamers” looking for a better life. But here we are: elderly citizens nearly robbed blind, and the suspects aren’t dreamers—they’re predators.
Even more disturbing is how little media coverage this story has received. If these were American citizens defrauding immigrants, CNN would be running wall-to-wall coverage and Congress would be holding hearings. But when the victims are working-class seniors in upstate New York and the suspects are illegal aliens from China? Crickets.
This is why border security is not just a matter of immigration policy—it’s a matter of national security and public safety. Every sovereign nation has the right, and the obligation, to control who enters its borders. And when we fail to do so, it’s our citizens—especially the vulnerable—who pay the price.
President Trump understands that. He’s restoring law and order to a system that was deliberately undermined for four long years. And while the left may call it harsh or xenophobic, Americans call it common sense.
The arrests of Jian Chen and Rihui Yan should serve as a wake-up call to every American. Open borders don’t just bring economic burdens—they open the door to criminals, con artists, and predators who see our citizens as easy targets. Enough is enough.
It’s time to stand unapologetically for American sovereignty, for American safety, and for American seniors who deserve to live in peace—not in fear of foreign criminals exploiting a broken system.
