Illegal Immigrant’s CDL Sparks Deadly Florida Crash Debate

A terrible crash in Florida this month has raised big questions about immigration, state policy, and the safety of our roads. At the center is a man named Harjinder Singh, who crossed into the United States illegally in 2018. Despite failing basic English and road sign tests, Singh was given a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) by the state of California. He later caused a multi-vehicle crash in Fort Pierce, Florida, killing three innocent Americans.

This tragedy didn’t just happen out of nowhere. It’s the result of weak border enforcement, reckless state policies, and a federal government that, under past leadership, lost control of immigration oversight. But now, with President Trump back in office and a renewed focus on law and order, Americans are starting to see how dangerous the mistakes of the last administration and liberal state governments can be.

Let’s break this down. Singh entered the U.S. illegally, meaning he had no right to be here in the first place. In 2020, during President Trump’s first term, Singh applied for a work permit. The Department of Homeland Security rejected his request. That should have been the end of the story. But in 2021, under Joe Biden, Singh’s work authorization was approved. That decision opened the door to disaster.

California, led by Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, took it one step further. The state’s DMV issued Singh a CDL, even though he couldn’t pass basic English and road sign tests. That’s not just a clerical error — it’s a clear threat to public safety. The ability to read road signs and understand traffic rules is not optional for drivers, especially those operating large trucks. In most states, failing these tests would disqualify a person outright. But in California, politics took priority over safety.

When asked about the crash, Homeland Security official Trisha McLaughlin placed the blame squarely on Newsom and the California DMV. “Three innocent people were killed in Florida because Gavin Newsom’s California DMV issued an illegal alien a Commercial Driver’s License,” she said. “How many more innocent people have to die before Gavin Newsom stops playing games with the safety of the American public?”

Newsom, clearly on the defensive, tried to shift blame back to the Trump administration, claiming that the federal government had already cleared Singh. But the timeline doesn’t lie. Trump’s administration rejected Singh’s work permit in 2020. It was President Biden’s administration that reversed that decision in 2021.

This story is more than just a tragic accident. It’s a warning about what happens when immigration law is ignored and political agendas override national security. The very idea that a state can give a commercial driving license to someone who entered the country illegally and can’t read road signs is shocking. But it reflects a deeper issue: California has become a sanctuary state not just for illegal immigrants, but for dangerous policies that put all Americans at risk.

The border crisis, which grew worse under Biden, is not just about numbers. It’s about real consequences — on highways, in neighborhoods, and in our hospitals and schools. When illegal immigrants are given legal protections, work permits, and even licenses to drive 80,000-pound trucks, the risk isn’t theoretical. It’s deadly.

President Trump has made it clear that under his leadership, immigration enforcement is back on track. But cleaning up the mess left by the Biden years and rogue states like California won’t be easy. It requires Americans to stay alert and demand accountability — at every level of government.

Three people in Florida are now dead because of a failure that started at the border and ended with a driver unfit for the road. Unless we take steps to strengthen our laws and enforce them without exception, more lives will be lost. This isn’t about politics — it’s about protecting American citizens and restoring common sense to our national security.
