According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Chinese investors will own more than 383,000 acres of U.S. property by the end of 2021. According to the New York Post, the land holdings are roughly twice the size of NY City.
The USDA published a study titled “Foreign Ownership and Holdings of US Agricultural Property” in January, revealing the quantity of land held by foreign investors.
There are now no federal limitations on the quantity of private land that a foreign entity may possess. Foreign owners who purchase, sell, or earn an interest in U.S. land, on the other hand, must report such transactions to the federal government.
Congress may explore suggested limitations on foreign land acquisitions during the upcoming Farm Bill debate, including tightening some of the USDA’s disclosure requirements and imposing additional qualifying conditions. The current Farm Bill was passed in late 2018 and will expire in September 2023.
“A review of state legislation reveals that no U.S. state has implemented an outright ban on foreign ownership,” according to the paper. “However, several states have limited or suggested prohibiting some foreign people and corporations from acquiring or having an interest in agricultural property inside their state, and some states have distinct disclosure rules.”
Counties in Kansas, Iowa, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin have the strongest restrictions on foreign property ownership.
According to USDA data for 2021, foreign organizations possess roughly 40.8 million acres of agricultural land in the United States. According to the year-end report, Chinese investors control 383,935 acres of land in the United States.
Smithfield Foods, the world’s largest pork producer, was purchased by WH Group, a Chinese corporation formerly known as Shuanghui International.
Fufeng Group, a Chinese-owned maker of bio-fermentation goods, bought 370 acres of land in North Dakota last year. The group intended to spend $700 million to build a wet grain mill. The project was halted last week, however, due to national security concerns regarding the property’s closeness to the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
On January 27, Air Force Assistant Sec. Andrew Hunter wrote to state senators, warning that the “planned project poses a substantial danger to national security with both short and long term concerns of severe consequences to our activities in the area.”
The municipal council voted last week to prevent the business from constructing the grain mill; nevertheless, the mayor underlined that the Chinese-owned group would still control the site.
Chinese investors possess around 0.9% of agricultural land in the United States, not including Fufeng Group’s most recent purchase.
The land controlled by Chinese corporations is worth $2.1 billion.
Why not land if already probably in charge of our government procedures to an extent.
This is why they sent their spy balloon or so called weather surveillance balloon, across our country. Every stimulus check that we’ve gotten from our government, since Bush, money has all been borrowed from China. Shame on our government. Our government has always helped put or borrowed money from communist countries that hate us. Why do we let this happen? The US citizens need to start investigating government officials backgrounds before an election, instead of just voting for who they like or voting for them because they are a Democrat or Republican. It’s time we took back our country, restore its values or we will eventually become a communist country ourselves. The government works for us,not tge other way around.
Well people you let it happen! Take a good look in a mirror! As long as you keep voting for politicians who does NOT have this country best interests in mind. YOU LOSE, A LITTLE MORE OF YOUR FREEDOM AND LIBERTY
