The campaign for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis welcomed the challenge from California Governor Gavin Newsom, and it seems to have frustrated Newsom’s staff.
By criticizing the now-republican presidential contender, Newsom has been trying to gain more national attention for months. He has also regularly challenged him to a debate.
In a June interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Newsom declared that he was “all in” for the debate, claiming he could keep going for up to three hours, and added that he required only “one day’s notice without any notes.”
During a Hannity interview this week, DeSantis agreed to the debate challenge. “Let’s do it, DeSantis remarked. Just let me know the time and location.”
Contrary to his assertion that he only requires “one day’s notice,” the proposal that Newsom gave to Fox News places the first day in which he is available for a debate three months in the future.
Both parties agreed on the following in their own proposals:
- Moderating is done by Hannity.
- There is a 90-minute discussion.
- No staff assistance.
- Equal time is allotted for each governor to speak.
- Interrupting one another is not permitted between governors.
- Two minutes are allotted for closing remarks.
What the governors can’t agree on:
- DeSantis suggests that instead of opening comments, each governor submit a two-minute video which would be played before the event.
- While DeSantis suggested dividing tickets equally, Newsom did not want an audience.
- Georgia is the only state that the two parties have in common and that they both offered for the event.
- DeSantis provided debate dates that were far sooner than those supplied by Newsom, but he also gave a late date that matched the more earlier date.
When they saw DeSantis’ request for a debate, Newsom’s crew, who appeared unprepared to handle a live audience, attacked him.
“What a joke,” a Newsom official told POLITICO. “Desantis’ counterproposal is rife with crutches to disguise his fear and incompetence – switching opening speeches with a promotional video, shortening the amount of time he has to be on stage, including cheat notes, and a cheering section, among others.”
“Ron should be capable to stand on his own two feet,” he continued. “Trump is kicking his a**, and it’s no surprise.”
The majority of Newsom’s team’s claims were untrue. DeSantis suggested keeping the debate’s duration the same and calling for the same two-minute closing speeches. DeSantis did not suggest allowing notes to be brought in, and both teams would be permitted to have fans attend with an equal number of tickets.
Newsome ruined California so why vote for him to ruin more of the Country.
