During his presidency in 2015, Barack Obama, via the National Institutes of Health (NIH), awarded a $3.7 million grant to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a lab in China known to grow coronaviruses and inject them into animals for testing.
Recent evidence indicates that the novel coronavirus that is responsible for the COVID-19 global pandemic was indeed leaked from that lab in Wuhan. Due to this, President Donald Trump announced during the coronavirus press conference last Friday that he would stop the funding for this lab.
During the press conference, a reporter questioned Trump about the backing and funding of this lab and asked the president directly “Why would the U.S. give a grant like that to China?”
While Trump admitted that he was just made aware of the backing of the Wuhan lab by the previous Democratic administration, he responded as such, “The Obama administration gave them a grant of $3.7 million, I’ve been hearing about that, and we’ve instructed that if any grant going to that area — we’re looking at it, literally, about an hour ago — and also early in the morning, we will end that grant very quickly,” Trump said. “But it was granted quite a while ago. They were granted quite a substantial amount of money.”
The president then asked the reporter when the grant was awarded, to which she replied that it was granted by the NIH in 2015.
“Who was president, then, I wonder?” Trump remarked.
The answer: Barack Obama.
Last Friday, White Coat Waste Project, the conservative-leaning animal rights organization informed The Washington Examiner about the grant, and intelligence sources converged on the Chinese lab earlier this week.
As imagined, the response to the news that the American taxpayers actually financed the exact lab that could be responsible for the deadly global pandemic we are all enduring at this time was not taken lightly.
“When I learned our government was spending taxpayers’ money at China’s disgusting wet markets to buy and slaughter cats and dogs for cruel experiments, I helped lead the successful effort to stop it last year,” said Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said in a statement. “I’m disgusted now to learn that, for years, the U.S. government has been funding dangerous and cruel animal experiments at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which may have contributed to the global spread of coronavirus, and research at other labs in China that have virtually no oversight from U.S. authorities.”
“It’s unnecessary and unacceptable for American taxpayers to fund these institutions, and it has to end now,” Gaetz added.
It is a relief to have a president that takes quick action to protect the country and its citizens. The White Coat Waste Project praised Trump’s decision to stop all funding to the Wuhan lab.

“Thanks to the outstanding leadership of President Trump, Congressman Matt Gaetz, and Senator Martha McNally, this misuse of taxpayer dollars is over,” Bellotti added.
Defenders of Obama habitually claim his administration was free of scandals, which is not so obvious with their funding of the exact Wuhan lab where the Chinese Wuhan coronavirus is said to have originated. Sounds scandalous to us…
