Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), commonly known as “MTG,” has vowed to renew her efforts to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Issa, after voting to move Greene’s resolution to the committee, explained on social media that the goal is to build a comprehensive case that could lead to a successful conviction in the Senate, where Democrats currently hold sway. This strategic approach aims to make Democrats either defend the Biden administration’s border policies or acknowledge the crisis, potentially swaying public opinion.
Despite the preference for regular order among some Republicans, Greene remains critical of this approach, advocating for more immediate action. She highlighted the personal stories of families affected by fentanyl and other border-related issues heard in committee hearings, questioning the number of American casualties needed before serious steps are taken against Mayorkas.
Greene’s persistence in pursuing impeachment reflects a broader tension within the Republican Party between those seeking immediate action and those advocating for a more calculated, procedural approach.
