After President Joe Biden promised to battle a judicial verdict suspending the agency’s clearance of the abortion drug mifepristone, Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) warned House Republicans may vote to defund Food and Drug Administration operations.
Last Monday, U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk filed a motion to halt the FDA’s clearance of mifepristone, which has been used to end the life of an unborn child in almost half of all abortions since the drug’s legalization more than two decades ago. Kacsmaryk claimed that the FDA obstructed court scrutiny and ignored petitions, expediting clearance of the potentially deadly medicine.
Biden has committed to oppose the Texas verdict, calling it “another unprecedented step in denying basic freedoms to women and endangering their health.”
Rep. Gonzales, on the other hand, told CNN’s “State of the Union” anchor Dana Bash on Sunday that Democrats like Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) who are asking the Biden administration to defy the judgment are sending a “very dangerous” message.
“The House Republicans have the purse strings,” Gonzales remarked. “And if the administration refuses to comply with this ruling, we are going to have a problem… it may come to the point where House Republicans on the appropriations committee have to defund FDA programs that do not make sense.”
Judge Kacsmaryk’s ruling sided with the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine and other pro-life organizations, who were represented by attorneys with the Alliance Defending Freedom. The groups had sued the FDA in November, accusing it of conducting “reckless and inadequate screening” of the mifepristone-based abortion drug regimen and removing safeguards meant to ensure women’s safety.
According to ADF Senior Counsel Erik Baptist, FDA authorities did not have the power to approve these pharmaceuticals and eliminate crucial protections.
“Pregnancy is not an illness, and chemical abortion drugs do not provide a therapeutic benefit—in addition to ending a baby’s life, they can pose serious and life-threatening complications to the mother,” Baptist stated.
Americans don’t believe the FDA’s claims that mail-order abortion drugs are safe, according to a poll conducted by the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America organization, with 75% agreeing that the agency should have conducted studies on girls under the age of 18 before authorizing the abortion pill for minors.
Ingrid Skop, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., is a board-certified OB-GYN with almost 30 years of experience in Texas. She is a senior fellow and the director of medical affairs at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, and she claims to have performed at least a dozen surgeries on women who had complications from abortion pills, such as blood transfusions, treatment for severe infections, and emotional distress after seeing their child’s body in the toilet, according to a news release.
According to SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser, the abortion business has depended on abortion drugs as a backup since the Dobbs v. Jackson case, since more than a dozen states have adopted significant safeguards for unborn infants and mothers.
“Women deserve to be aware of all the life-affirming options available to them, including almost three thousand pregnancy centers and maternity homes across the country that provide vital services at no cost, as well as safe and successful abortion pill reversal, which has saved thousands of babies after their mothers regretfully consumed mifepristone to cause an abortion. As always, the pro-life movement stands ready to serve them with compassion and respect,” Dannenfelser stated.
The Biden administration will have a week to file an appeal.

First of all I think that a woman should avoid becomming pregnant in the first place, as there are condoms, birth control pills and other means avoiding pregency. Second her body is not setup for getting pregnant and than terminating that pregancy, but is set up to carrying that littleone to term. Thirdly the womb is the gateway into this world as we all have spent time in our mother’s uterus and organized our earthly tabernacle there.
