Before he can file an appeal against Judge Arthur Engoron’s decision last week, which ordered him to pay $354 million in fines—more than $450 million with interest—for fraud, former President Donald Trump must provide New York State with a bail of over half a billion dollars.
Critics have pointed out that Trump is the first individual who has ever been sued under a cryptic fraud statute in New York, which essentially criminalizes the routine activity of valuing real estate during bank talks and does not need any harm to be done.
While Attorney General Letitia James maintained that no one is above the law when she sought office, her case against Trump is the first of its kind in state history. Furthermore, the enormous fine is unheard of.
Jonathan Turley of the New York Post highlights another startling detail: Trump has to pay the entire amount before he can file an appeal.
“It is against New York law for Trump to appeal this decision without paying the whole sum—including interest—into a court account. $455 million is hard to come by, even for Trump. Similar to this, a bond would need an organization to ensure payment for a defendant who is facing the necessity of selling off a large portion of his holdings after being prohibited from conducting business in New York.”
“Nothing is more successful for judges like Engoron than excess. He can make it difficult or impossible for a defendant to appeal by imposing this enormous sum, barring bankruptcy or the sale of assets at distressed prices.”
“The disproportionate fine and its foundation raise serious statutory and constitutional issues. Many of us think it ought to be eliminated completely or drastically scaled back.”
Additionally, Engoron forbade Trump from presenting a defense and declared him guilty by means of the state’s summary judgment.
At what point is the Supreme Court going have to rule on the unconstitutional trial that was allowed to destroy the front leader in the 2024 Presidential Election? Well stated on all accounts. Censorship and mail-in balloting, harvesting, computer glitches, etc., have to be stopped and without voter ID requirements and in-person at voting places has to be enforced. Why is only one side opposing these standards? I’ll let you figure it out.

One would think that a loan with Trump would be very large thus requiring far more scrutiny than an average loan. Although Trump may have signed off as being accurate, it would seem any asset listed would be checked thoroughly by bank officials. If he had defaulted, he would have to explain everything in detail to a court BUT so would the Bank, but regardless his assets would have been sold to satisfy the loan and a deficiency judgement would have been issued. When Banks fail who saves them? The Government, meaning us, the taxpayers. Their is no penalty for the Banks, they just get revived and carry on as usual.
