The mainstream media thinks it has a pretty good handle on who is a conservative in America today. In articles and TV news, the press pushes the notion that conservatives can pretty much be summed up by their skin color and gender. Yes, to the MSM, only those who are white and male have the gall to register as Republicans.
And what about all those right-leaning Americans who you might have a difficult time describing as white or male? Well, The Left has several theories about that as well. Many progressives are only too eager to claim that these folks are either being actively duped by the white patriarchy or deluding themselves. Either way, they insist it is the burden of The Left to ‘save’ these poor souls from the evil clutches of Republicans and deliver them safely into the arms of a benevolent and caring Democratic Party.
Sure, The Leftists don’t like women or Latinos joining the ranks of the Republican Party, but what really gets them going is the idea that an African-American would dare to call him or herself a conservative. After all, in the minds of progressives, it’s a pretty rotten thing to do to the Democratic Party that has already done for the Black community over the years. Heck, that would be traitorous, and it is no surprise that one of the most common insults that conservative African-Americans hear is that they are “traitors” to their race.
Despite the haters, more and more African-Americans are publicly coming out in support of the Right. Donald Trump has seen a higher level of African-American support than any recent Republican president, and this trend is terrifying to Democrats. This was so perplexing to the establishment, that journalists had to treat it as some sort of mystery. NBC News Signal’s Simone Boyce met up with a group of Black conservatives at a 2018 Turning Point USA sponsored rally to find out what attracts them to the Republican Party and how it feels to support Trump while being Black.
It turns out that what is so appealing is the fact that Republicans are offering African-Americans a chance to stand up on their own two feet and feel empowered. At the same time, the Democrats continue making the same old promises of more government assistance that has led to decades of failing Black communities. Unfortunately, it seems that the most prominent critics of African-American conservatives are other Blacks.
A student Boyce interviewed said, “People have been really crazy, especially black people; I had some people tell me to bleach my skin; kill myself; you’re a coon; you’re an Uncle Tom.” Another student agreed with the sentiment, “It’s, like, one thing to be called those things by, like, white people; when it’s within your own community, it hurts.”
Although it isn’t always easy to stand up for what you believe, Black conservatives are no longer letting the MSM and the Democrats pigeon-hole or take their votes for granted anymore. They know that Black, white or, brown, it’s always “America First.”
