According to a Rasmussen Reports survey conducted on Monday on behalf of the National Pulse, 57% of Democratic voters would be against Congress recognizing the results of the 2024 election in the event that former President Trump wins.
“Some Dems in Congress have claimed that if Trump wins, they would vote against recognizing the election results because of Donald Trump’s participation in the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021,” the survey questioned potential voters. Do you think Democrats should refuse to certify the election results if Donald wins, or do you disagree? Democrats would be against certification in 57% of cases.
Among “liberals,” over two-thirds declared they would be against certification. But the majority of voters do not have Democratic views.
Just 35% of all voters would be in favor of refusing to declare Trump’s win overall. Fifty-five percent of voters were against Congress not recognizing a Trump triumph. With a 3-point margin of error, the survey polled 912 potential voters between March 5 and 7.
A grand jury indicted Trump in August 2023 on four charges pertaining to January 6. Counts comprise:
- “Undertaking to deceive the United States”
- “Collusion to Impede Official Proceedings”
- “Tryptically impeding and obstructing an official proceeding”
- “Collusion Opposite Rights”
Up to 55 years in jail are the possible sentences for the claimed offenses. According to a Department of Justice spokeswoman who talked to Reuters, Trump “does not face the prospect of the death penalty since the indictment did not include the ‘special findings’ needed to seek that sentence.”
