A leading Putin ally cautions the West against pursuing a Ukrainian win, threatening nuclear attacks against “Kiev, Berlin, London, and Washington” in addition to a catastrophic civil war in Russia that would claim “tens of millions” of lives.
Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy head of the Russian Security Council and a former prime minister and president of Russia under Vladimir Putin, has threatened to use Russia’s nuclear weapons, the “entire strategic arsenal,” to attack major cities in the West. Speaking about Ukraine’s desire to reclaim its internationally recognized national territory—which, in many circumstances, has been under Russian occupation for almost 10 years—Medvedev, for whom no insult is too petty to warrant a nuclear reaction.
Russia now views Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia as complete portions of the Russian Republic after amending its constitution. In his most recent warning, Medvedev made it apparent that he views the Western nations providing armed support to Ukraine as legitimate targets and warned against attempting to drive the boundaries back to their previous position.
“Attempts to bring Russia back to the boundaries of 1991 will result in one thing,” he said. to a world war against Western nations with our state’s whole strategic arsenal. In Washington, Berlin, Kiev, and London.
Medvedev asserted that Russia’s nuclear weapons will destroy “wonderful historical areas” and recommended that anyone attempting to stop Russia’s war against Ukraine should surrender “before it’s too late.” Speaking further on the fallout from Ukraine regaining its legitimate land with support from the West, Medvedev warned that Russia would plunge back into civil conflict if it lost its recently gained territory.
According to Russian official media, Medvedev went on to discuss “the direct and irreversible collapse of present-day Russia,” presumably in an attempt to emphasize to a domestic audience the significance of backing the government’s war effort.
Medvedev cautioned the West once more that, in the event of such turmoil, Russia’s disincentives to use nuclear weapons would vanish.
In spite of the warnings, Medvedev stated in his remarks on Monday that he thought the “special military operation,” as Russia euphemistically refers to it, will soon win. He declared that Russia is a powerful nation “[because] we know how to win” and that its military might is on par with any in the world.
The latest in a string of outrageous threats against Western cities that Medvedev has made over the course of the war in Ukraine are his comments regarding nuclear war. As previously reported, in response to President Putin’s international arrest order, Medvedev has vowed to launch nuclear missiles against Britain, his “disgustingly damp… everlasting adversary,” and to start a “hot, full-scale World War III” in retaliation for US meddling in Ukraine. His most recent statements are especially similar to one that Medvedev made in July 2023, in which he threatened nuclear war in exchange for NATO’s assistance to Ukraine.

Had Joe Biden shown strength when Russia lined up it’s military two years ago, we would not be in the mess we are in today. Biden is a total disgrace to America. Trump or any other strong President would have given Putin a telephone call and told him we are opposed to any moves against the Ukraine and will act accordingly. That allows Putin to finish his ‘war games’ and say they were successful and return his troops to their bases. Putin saves face and there is peace. Of course, Trump or whomever, cannot brag about this and have any press releases.
Biden pushed Putin with a threat to have the Ukraine join NATO. Putin argued back that this would mean that the border between the Ukraine and Russia would be lined with missile syloes and he would not let Russians live under that constant threat. Finland after joining NATO set up missile sales at the border between Finland and Russia. Biden, Instead of realizing this threat to Russia, pushed harder about establishing NATO in the Ukraine until Putin finally went to war with the Ukraine.
