Hillary Clinton is at it again, and this time she is being a bad role model for young girls and all children by condoning disrespect toward our country and its guiding principles.
Earlier this week, Clinton expressed her support on Twitter for Mariana Taylor, an 11-year-old girl from Maryland who kneeled down instead of standing when her classmates were reciting the Pledge of Alliance. Rather than putting her hand on her heart while facing the American flag, she took the stance that has become all too common for NFL players.
Clinton Calls the Act of Disrespect ‘Good Work’
“It takes courage to exercise your right to protest injustice, especially when you’re 11! Keep up the good work Mariana,” Clinton tweeted.
Good work? That would be something an adult would typically say to a child of that age when she gets 100% correct on her math sheet or wins the spelling bee. Showing disrespect toward our country and shared beliefs is not exactly something that should be called “good work.”
Disrespecting the American flag and National Anthem are not to be praised. Plus, adults are supposed to set a good example for American children by teaching gratitude and respect for our country.
How It All Started
After Taylor took a knee during the Pledge of Alliance, her teacher attempted to correct her and point out the error of her ways. But then her parents and the ACLU of Maryland got involved, and then it was the school’s turn to speak out.
The school said this in a statement:
“We know of no [Baltimore County Public Schools] student who has been reprimanded or punished for nonparticipation in patriotic observances. We fully support students’ rights and encourage student voice as articulated in board policy.”
Taylor was not punished for refusing to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance.
Indirect Criticism of Trump
Clinton takes any chance she can get to retaliate against and disagree with Trump, her arch rival and 2016 election opponent. Trump has been vocal in his criticisms of NFL players who refuse to stand for the National Anthem. His stance on the Pledge of Allegiance would be the same. So Clinton, in supporting Taylor, is in a roundabout way slamming Trump and his policies.
What is it all coming to? Can Americans at least unite and agree on anything? Not that many years ago, we could agree to be “one nation under God” even while having and expressing differences in viewpoints. It used to be that we could all stand up and recite the Pledge of Allegiance together, and kids could do so together as a group. Let’s hope for a return to that.
