Poland’s minister of defense signed a contract on Wednesday to purchase a second batch of the U.S. main battle tanks as Warsaw tries to increase its defensive capabilities and increases its military cooperation with the U.S. in the aftermath of Russia’s conflict in neighboring Ukraine.
According to officials, Poland is the very first U.S. ally in Europe to get Abrams tanks.
The $1.4 billion agreement was signed by Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak at a military installation in Wesola. The agreement calls for 116 M1A1 Abrams tanks to be delivered, together with associated logistics and equipment, to begin this year.
“We are bolstering Poland’s military, we are reinforcing the iron fist of Poland’s army in order to improve the capacity to deter the aggressor,” Blaszczak, a deputy prime minister, stated.
He stated that collaboration between Poland and the United States is enhancing the security of the whole area, particularly the eastern flank of NATO.
Gen. John Lubas, commander of the 101st Airborne Division, and U.S. deputy chief of missions in Poland Daniel Lawton both attended the signing ceremony. Elements of the 101st Airborne are stationed in southeast Poland, close to the Ukrainian border.
Lawton stated that the cooperation between the United States and Poland “has never been more essential,” and that the tank purchase was part of President Biden’s vow to give “our most dependable and strongest military assets to Poland on an emergency basis.”
The transaction follows the $4.7 billion agreement reached the previous year for the purchase of 250 modernized M1A2 Abrams tanks, which are scheduled to be delivered in 2025 or 2026. In addition, Poland is now expecting delivery of American HIMARS artillery weapons and has already been supplied with Patriot missile batteries.
Poland has also inked other contracts with South Korea for several billions of dollars in order to expeditiously buy howitzers, tanks, and fighter planes. In December, the first shipment of tanks and howitzers arrived at their destination. Some of the weaponry will be used to compensate for munitions that Poland has previously delivered to Ukraine.

We differ on the use of our individual and state resources. I think supplying arms and ammunitions to Ukraine benefits the US, the western world and Ukraine. In the long run, those supplies may even help Russia by ridding Russia of Putin.

How much more is this dirt bag sob and his handlers going to go to weaken OUR country? He just sent or is sending battle tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles to Ukraine, now tanks to Poland!? I can just see our “enemies” licking their chops. Low on equipment and a WOKE Military, and they’re doing their best to DISARM the citizenry. How much better and easier can it get for some UNfriendly to basically just walk in and take over.
You are missing our main advantage of seeing how well our equipment works against our most likely adversary. Even being used by freshly trained troops. Which “UNfriendly” could just “walk in and take over”? Take over what?
I am not sure of hard facts that support my theory but I truly feel that the United States wants to be invaded. I read something of the effect that if we’re invaded then the constitution would no longer exist and that was the only way it could be eliminated. Has anyone else heard that or know if it’s even true?
We were invaded by Japan in the early years of World War 2. Attacks on both Hawaii and Alaska were made by the Japanese.
We have successfully repelled the British, Mexico and the Japanese. And we have defeated the Spanish interests in the Americas. Attacks on the US do not change our constitution, as the British found.
