Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is still reviewing the nation’s most pressing litigation from home, leaving many to revisit one of the oldest debates about the court: should justices really serve life time appointments?
Ginsburg, known affectionately as “RBG” by many progressive Americans, appeared to be on her way out after she missed oral arguments on the bench for the first time in her extensive career. She also recently underwent surgery to remove two tumors from her lungs, suggesting that the liberal justice would soon have to vacate the Supreme Court. Despite all of this, Ginsburg assures that she will continue to serve for the rest of her life.
Of course, we all know what this is really all about: Ginsburg and those who support her desperately want the justice to outlive President Donald Trump’s time in the White House. Should Ginsburg step down, it would give the commander-in-chief a chance to put a third nominee on the court following Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. This would in effect keep the Supreme Court a conservative institution for a generation. This is a nightmare scenario for progressives, who often push policies that go against everything the Constitution stands for.
So, is there really a case for term limits on the Supreme Court? Could this end up backfiring on Republicans in the future? One America News explores these possibilities in the video below.
