Once again, the Democratic Party has reaffirmed its award-winning strategy: when you lose, change the rules.
In February, Democratic lawmakers in Virginia’s state legislature voted to approve a bill mandating all electoral votes in national elections go to the winner of the popular vote. The vote is a move to support the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, a movement between states to side-step the Electoral College in presidential elections.
This is the latest in the Democratic efforts to effectively abolish the Electoral College. Calls for this historic (an unconstitutional ban) reached a fever pitch in the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election, which saw Democrat Hillary Clinton losing to now-President Donald Trump, despite winning the popular vote nationwide.
The reason for the Electoral College is simple — we live in the United States of America, not the United People of America. The leader of the executive branch is chosen based on the consensus of individual jurisdictions, rather than a simple majority. Today, it prevents states with large municipalities like New York City or Los Angeles from getting the final say in every single presidential election. Coincidentally, these cities are shoe-ins for Democrats in every contest.
Considering that all the Democratic Party has really done since the last election is attempt to bulldoze the Trump Administration, it’s pretty clear what the motive is here…
