Why Young Listeners are Flocking to Conservative Talk Radio

Conservative talk radio is making changes to its traditional format in an effort to expand the audience and reach a new generation of followers. The stellar combination of modern technology and some very opinionated young conservative radio hosts is changing the way we listen to and view talk radio today.

Broadcast radio may seem like a thing of the past for some, but it is still a popular part of American media today. In fact, over 90 percent of Americans over the age of 12 tune in to their radios every week. The numbers are even higher when we look at political and talk radio shows. A whopping 91 percent of talk radio shows that are broadcast each day is conservative.

So yes, talk radio is still a serious business and even recently became the nation’s most popular radio format when it surpassed the listener ratings of country music. The American public definitely has an infatuation with talk radio programming. Popular longtime talk radio host Rush Limbaugh, often referred to as the ‘President of Talk Radio’, has over 15 million listeners each week. Coming in a close second is Sean Hannity with around 14 million listeners each week. While these men are true icons in the industry, they are now having to make room for all of the young conservatives that are breaking into the world of talk radio.

Conservative hosts and commentators like Ben Shapiro, Mark Levin, Jonah Goldberg, Scott Beason, and Allie Stuckey are making a name for themselves by taking advantage of modern technology to reach their target audiences via not only radio but podcasts and YouTube as well. This next generation of talk radio hosts has the attention of an ‘on-the-go’ world where people live on their cell phones and can listen to their podcasts, watch one of their videos, or tune in to their radio show no matter where they are in the world or what they are doing.

These young conservative commentators have millions of followers, and people look to them for truth and guidance in politics during these times when the media cannot always be trusted to provide a fair and truthful perspective. Since mainstream media now has the American people doubting its trustworthiness, the new generations of voters are looking to these new hosts to guide them with honest, direct, and fair commentary.

Do not underestimate the power of talk radio and this new generation of hosts’ ability to influence the new generation of voters. Conservative leaders have the opportunity to together with these conservative commentators to utilize all of this new technology and various mediums to reach voters and help secure a 2020 Presidential win.
