According to the most recent Economist/YouGov poll, former President Donald Trump is leading President Joe Biden by double digits among independents.
The poll, which was conducted among 1,559 adult U.S. residents on March 10–12, 2024, asked participants who they would back if Trump and Biden were to face off for the presidency again in 2020.
Trump leads Biden by two percentage points, 44 percent to 42 percent, among all respondents and registered voters. The two were level earlier in March at 44 percent apiece. As expected, the majority of Republicans (89%) favor Trump, while the majority of Democrats (89%) back Biden. Naturally, this draws attention to independents, who, according to a recent study, prefer Trump over the incumbent.
Biden trails Trump by ten points with thirty percent of independent votes, while Trump receives forty percent. Eleven percent say they won’t vote, five percent are undecided, and thirteen percent favor “other.”
All respondents, including Democrats, Republicans, and independents, who said they would not support either Biden or Trump, said they would choose independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (34%), up from 26%, Jill Stein (3%), and Cornel West (1%). Fourteen percent favor someone else, and over half, 49 percent, are undecided.
The findings of this study come after a terrible CNN poll conducted in February that indicated the majority of independents, or 66 percent, disapproved of Biden’s work performance. Furthermore, a further 70% of independent voters stated that Biden did not merit reelection. These are alarming statistics in an election year, given his declining popularity following the State of the Union.

89% of Dems back Biden, f***ing ridiculous! I know a few who’ve confessed that they know he’s really not in charge of anything, but they trust whoever is. The stupidity of Americans, especially liberals, is astounding and very dangerous. As blue states fail, we may see a civil war, or at least mass violence in some cities.
What bothers me is the minuscule sample size, for a nation as diverse as ours to be representative of of a true sample of the reality of our voters. Our population is estimated to be around 333.2 million as of 2022! I would have liked a larger sample size to be trustworthy to make use of the diversity of the nations population to truly be representative.
