A careless remark made by President Biden about making money from the selling of state secrets has gone viral.
Biden, who is renowned for frequently making mistakes and losing his train of thought when speaking, was the target of widespread mocking and condemnation after a recording of the days-old remarks was published on Twitter this week.
Biden remarked during his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Big Tech chief executive officers, “I was simply thanking the — well, I started off without you, and I’ve sold quite a number of state secrets as well as a lot of really significant things that we shared.”
The audience laughed, and Biden said, “Now, all joking aside…,” before continuing to discuss how technology is changing people’s lives all throughout the world, according to the official White House transcripts.
In a strange turn of events, technology was what made Biden regret making those remarks. A video of the comments was published this week by the Republican National Committee’s “Research” account on Twitter.
The president’s explanation was also omitted from a snapshot of the official White House transcript that was also tweeted by the GOP account. Biden did not clarify his remarks later in the 14-second clip.
Nevertheless, there was a stir when the Biden video received over a million “views” in just under two hours. People made analogies to the federal records case against former President Trump and quipped that this was a Freudian error, referring to bribery claims that the president has rejected as a “bunch of malarkey.”
“Well, honest or clouded with uncertainty? Democrats, where are you? We seldom hear from you on this subject, so please speak out,” former Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) stated.
“Joe Biden is practically admitting his sins out loud because his brain is malfunctioning. Abolish Biden!” Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tweeted, “It’s unbelievable and so demeaning to America.”
Greg Price, the State Freedom Caucus Network’s director of communications, said that “Donald Trump has been indicted for actions that Joe Biden has admitted to doing out loud.”
Over two-thirds of registered voters, or 68%, indicated they have moderate to serious worries about Biden “not possessing the necessary physical and mental health” to be president in a recent NBC News survey, which revealed rising apprehension over his suitability for office.
