Planned Parenthood loves to talk about many things — “women’s healthcare,” birth control and the “pro-choice services” they offer in the communities they serve. But they really don’t like to talk about their own roots. Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, is rarely mentioned, in large part because of her stance on eugenics and race.
In the past, the abortion brand has simply avoided mentioning Sanger as much as possible, but now some pro-life leaders are accusing the new CEO of rewriting history. Ryan Bomberger, co-founder of the Radiance Foundation, has called out Planned Parenthood’s new CEO for blatant attempts to rewrite Sanger’s racially charged past. According to Bomberger, Alexis McGill’s actions and “denial of basic historical facts is a pathetic and desperate attempt to rewrite history and project Planned Parenthood’s own inherent racism.”
Bomberger’s recent pro-life column states that the new president of Planned Parenthood is responsible for the deaths of unborn black babies every day:
Alexis McGill “oversees the $2 billion leading killer of unborn black lives (an estimated 247 per day),” all the while she is hoping to tag the pro-life movement as racist.”
The Truth About Margaret Sanger
There’s a reason Planned Parenthood doesn’t like to mention Sanger – her eugenics based, incredibly racist past. Sanger’s original concept was the “Negro Project” designed to eliminate or dramatically reduce the birth rates of the black population, Bomberger explains:
“The Negro Project… was not an altruistic effort despite the official Margaret Sanger Papers Project’s laughable denial of Sanger’s own documented racism. Its objective was to severely reduce or eliminate the birth rate of poorer blacks. The ever duplicitous Sanger proudly proclaimed, in her article entitled The Eugenic Value of Birth Control Propaganda: ‘…the campaign for Birth Control is not merely of eugenic value, but is practically identical in ideal, with the final aims of Eugenics.’ She continued: ‘Possibly drastic and Spartan methods may be forced upon society if it continues complacently to encourage the chance and chaotic breeding that has resulted from our stupidly cruel sentimentalism.'”
Bomberger also pointed out the soaring abortion rates in black communities – Planned Parenthood performed 1,101 abortions of black babies for every 1,000 born alive, according to the activist.
Rewriting History
Planned Parenthood’s recent mentions of Margaret Sanger, when they mention her at all, attempt to sever the ties between their founder and the racist and barbaric practice of eugenics. The brand first began to showcase Sanger as a moderate proponent of eugenics, instead of as a fundamental leader of the group.
The latest move by a new CEO indicates an even further shift from history and reality when it comes to Sanger, which pro-life groups like Project Radiance simply can’t ignore:
“An industry that was inarguably birthed in eugenic racism and elitism somehow wants people to believe that the leading killer of black lives isn’t practicing systemic racism but ‘reproductive justice,’” Bomberger concluded, in his most recent piece about the Sanger controversy.
It’s encouraging to see more Americans — particularly in communities of color — wake up to the truth about Planned Parenthood’s brutal and racist past.
