Contempt Of Congress? Biden Team In BIG Trouble

House Republicans have threatened to hold AG Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress over the Justice Department’s refusal to provide subpoenaed audio recordings of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s interview with President Biden as part of the investigation into his handling of classified documents.

On Monday, Garland received a letter from the chairs of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer (R-Ky.), and the House Judiciary Committee, Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).

The text and audio recordings of Special Counsel Hur’s interviews with Mr. Zwonitzer and Biden, as well as the audio recordings of Hur’s conversations with Biden, are among the additional materials that the committees have requested that the department provide, according to Comer and Jordan. “You are legally required to deliver this evidence in response to the subpoenas dated February 27.”

Garland “must furnish all responding documents no later than 12:00 p.m. on April 8, 2024,” according to Jordan and Comer. They went on, “If you do not comply, the committees will think about taking additional action, such as calling for contempt of Congress proceedings.”

Comer and Jordan sent a subpoena to the Justice Department, requesting audio recordings and a transcript of Hur’s talk with Biden.

The DOJ delivered two heavily redacted transcripts of Hur’s conversations with Biden to the committees just hours before his scheduled public appearance earlier this month.

However, the Justice Department did not produce the audio recordings of the interviews. Comer and Jordan state that the committees “particularly emphasized” the production of the audio recordings.

Comer and Jordan subpoenaed Mark Zwonitzer last week. The subpoena demands that Zwonitzer produce all documents and communications with Biden or his staff related to his ghostwriting work on the autobiographies “Promise Me, Dad” and “Promises to Keep,” including call logs, emails, and more.

The subpoena also demands that Zwonitzer submit any pertinent contracts and agreements, as well as audio recordings and transcripts of his interactions and interviews with Biden.

Hur’s assessment, which became available to the public a month ago, refutes the president’s assertions that he denied Zwonitzer access to sensitive information. It states that “at least three times President Biden read confidential notes from national security meetings” to Zwonitzer “almost verbatim,” and that Biden would “read from his notebooks practically verbatim, often for an hour or more at a time.”

Hur stated in his testimony earlier this month that Zwonitzer “slid” audio recording files and transcripts of his conversations with Biden “into his trash bin on his computer” after learning that a special counsel had been appointed to investigate the event.

Jordan questioned if the ghostwriter tried to “destroy the evidence” at Hur’s open trial earlier this month.

  1. Could congress have allowed Garland an additional six months to deliver this stuff? That way Garland and his crooked bunch could totally sanitize everything. It is so frustrating to see how weak kneed our so called leaders are. On top of that, isn’t it contempt of Congress or not? Why can’t they just do something instead of monkeying around with hearings upon hearings!

    1. No they are crooked and deserve what they get. Republicans should do exactly what the democrates do. Use the courts for the failings.

  2. The delays decrease the time until the elections, where the top of the news is focused on damming Trumps actions while ignoring Biden’s criminal acts! As they keep the focus on made up crimes supposedly carried out by Republicans, they ignore real crimes carried out in favour of hostile nations by the Democratic socialist government!

    1. Amen, Democrats have A WHOLE lot to hide. Now sick Bill Clinton is got his nose in for Democrats. They will try every dirty trick they can come up with, and with lie they can get away with that hurt American citizens. Thier goal is to control us, take away our freedoms. Please be aware really aware of the evil behind their agendas. America is my home, _and yours don’t let Dems s destroy our freedoms

  3. Both Navydisposaleer and John Sweet are totally correct. Congress, much to many who are disappointed in them, are just playing games which will end up destroying our Great country. Just charge these traitors and be done with it. Make them pay.
