In an ad that was aired in the weeks leading up to the midterm elections in 2022, the RNC is reminding Americans that Dems voted to employ 87,000 extra IRS inspectors.
The advertisement put out by the RNC is directed squarely at Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, who supported President Biden’s far-left agenda and voted in favor of it.
“What is Biden’s game plan for the fall? A whole stadium full of IRS inspectors,” says the narrator in the football-themed advertisement. “Fresh government bureaucrats eager to grab more of your money to fund Biden’s woke policies and bail out the rich.”
“Don’t get fired by Biden and the Democrats this autumn. This next November, Send the Democrats and the agents of the IRS packing,” it says.
Indeed, Cortez Masto was among those who voted in support of the multibillion-dollar IRS increase under the Inflation Reduction Act.
“The House Freedom Caucus rejects the so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act,’ and asks all Republicans to vote against the bill,” the House Freedom Caucus declared at the time, criticizing the 725-page partisan package.
“A slew of unbiased experts agree that this measure would not reduce inflation, and many believe that it will only have the opposite effect. Worse, not only does this plan funnel $369 billion in subsidies to climate change special interests, but it is doing so on the backs of hard working Americans who pay taxes,” the statement says, explicitly mentioning the IRS expansion:
“Democrats are expanding the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with $80 billion (six times the agency’s yearly budget) to fund their socialist agenda. They plan to hire 87,000 more enforcement officers and target taxpayers who earn less than $200,000, the same middle class that is most affected by the soaring inflation of Bidenomics. The wrongly named ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ is a catastrophe from every angle and must be resisted.”
According to ProPublica, Cortez Masto has voted with socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) more than 90% of the time.
The latest RealClearPolitics (RCP) average shows Republican candidate Adam Laxalt leading Cortez Masto by 2.1 percent.
