Former CIA analyst John Gentry, who is also a Georgetown University professor and the author of the book “Neutering the CIA,” has expressed concerns about the potential interference of a politicized intelligence community in the 2024 election, similar to their alleged efforts in the 2020 election. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Gentry shared his insights on this issue.
Gentry predicts the deep state within the intelligence community may reemerge in the upcoming election because they could perceive Trump as a threat to their internal policies. He referred to a controversial letter signed by more than 50 former senior intelligence officials just weeks before the 2020 election, in which they claimed that the New York Post’s Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian disinformation. This letter has since been debunked and linked to then-Biden campaign adviser Antony Blinken and former Obama acting CIA Director Mike Morell, according to new testimony.
Gentry suggests that it’s important to closely monitor these former intelligence officials, as some of them have compromised their credibility by their actions. He has observed signs that these individuals will be politically active in the 2024 election, and he expects leaking of sensitive information to resume.
Additionally, Gentry highlighted how the intel. community has become more focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in recent decades, diverting attention away from day-to-day intelligence operations. He noted that efforts to increase diversity in the intelligence community began half a century ago and accelerated under the Obama administration, particularly with an executive order aimed at improving diversity and inclusion in the federal workforce.
Former CIA Director John Brennan and former DNI James Clapper are cited by Gentry as key figures who supported the push for a more politically active intelligence community. They encouraged employees to prioritize diversity and inclusion issues and, in some cases, to engage in political activities.
Gentry hopes that his book will raise awareness of the political issues within intelligence agencies and shed light on the effectiveness of former members in influencing the 2020 election without facing criticism. He believes that these factors, when considered together, indicate a potential resurgence of activism within the intelligence community in the lead-up to the 2024 election.
