House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently ran up the white flag of defeat after failing to strong-arm the Republican-dominated Senate to control the impending impeachment process.
The veteran California Congresswoman has employed every political tactic in her bag of tricks to negotiate terms for a trial that would allow the inclusion of rumor, innuendo, and opinions by the Ivy League hacks Democrats trotted out to sling mud at President Donald Trump. None produced first-hand information about the conversations between Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart. Even their rumor-mongering opinions were roundly discredited. In their lust to undo the 2016 elections, Democrats disgraced themselves. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has no intention of a repeat performance and has rebuffed Speaker Pelosi.
“Speaker Pelosi wanted leverage — leverage — to reach into the Senate and dictate our trial proceedings to us. Now I’ve made clear from the beginning that no such leverage exists. It is nonexistent. And yesterday we made clear it will never exist,” McConnell said. “The House Democrats’ turn is over. The Senate has made its decision.”
Although Pelosi withheld the articles of impeachment in an effort to coerce McConnell and other Republican senators, the strategy appears to have blown up in her face. The Senate majority leadership has stood shoulder-to-shoulder on the three fundamental facts of the impeachment charade.
As the hoax unraveled, it became abundantly clear that Rep. Schiff and his staff had conspired with the so-called “whistleblower,” whose statement is fraught with inconsistencies, and admissions of zero first-hand knowledge of any wrongdoing. The secret witness has been discredited by diplomats whose testimony asserted the president never wanted a quid pro quo with Ukraine to further investigate the admitted corruption by Sleazy Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
The more salient fact is that the Obama-era Department of Justice failed to investigate and indict the Bidens for their confirmed pay-to-play schemes that sent millions to Hunter’s bank accounts. Lastly, House Democrats claim obstruction of Congress despite the fact disputes between the White House, and legislative branch are matters for the courts to decide. Democrats seek to sidestep the established dispute resolution process and pretend it’s a crime. With no high crime or misdemeanor, the Senate must decide whether to dismiss the articles out-of-hand or conduct a show trial over crimes that never happened. Speaker Pelosi and her “resist and obstruct” extremists have been politically undone by failing to gain power over the process.
“I have asked Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler to be prepared to bring to the Floor next week a resolution to appoint managers and transmit articles of impeachment to the Senate,” Pelosi reportedly wrote in a recent letter. “I will be consulting with you at our Tuesday House Democratic Caucus meeting.”
Moving forward, Pelosi and Democrats who assured their radical supporters they would remove Trump face utter defeat and humiliation. Political insiders anticipate their disgruntled voter-base could stay home for the 2020 elections. Pundits also expect increasingly deep divisions inside the Democratic Party as liberal extremists and moderates grow further apart about values and strategies. Fanning the flames of a Democrat civil war, the Arkansas state senate appears to be readying a resolution of condemnation.
“On behalf of my entire Republican Senate Caucus, I filed this resolution today to encourage the United States Senate to act as quickly as possible within their full constitutional authority regarding the impeachment process and to condemn the actions of some members of the House of Representatives for passing and holding articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump,” Arkansas State Sen. Missy Irvin said. “The partisan games being played in the halls of Congress are hurting the people of Arkansas and this country. It is time to deal with the issues at hand and to move on to the important work of protecting our country, our soldiers abroad, and to continue to improve our economy.”
Republicans hold a 26-9 majority in the Arkansas Senate and a 68-31 majority in the state’s House. Given Arkansas also enjoys a Republican governor, it could become the first of many state’s to formally rebuke the scurrilous actions by congressional Democrats.
Along with formal condemnation, what has been particularly embarrassing for Speaker Pelosi is that she reportedly got the idea to withhold the articles of impeachment from CNN — fake news.
