Former President Donald Trump has secured another significant endorsement for his presidential campaign, this time from Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas. Cotton expressed his endorsement on various social media platforms, highlighting his belief that the country was in a better state under Trump’s leadership compared to the current administration of President Biden.
Cotton’s endorsement tweet expressed his concerns about the present state of affairs, stating that, “With Joe Biden as president, the whole country has gone to hell: families cannot afford groceries, our border is completely open to invasion, and our enemies are starting wars everywhere.” He went on to endorse Trump and express his eagerness to collaborate with him to regain control of the White House and the Senate, with the aim of assisting hardworking Arkansans suffering from Biden’s policies.
Cotton has previously worked alongside Trump on immigration-related issues, particularly on legislation introduced in 2017. The legislation, known as the Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy (RAISE) Act, proposed a merit-based system that would have significantly restructured legal immigration in the U.S., reducing the number of green cards issued annually from 1 million to 500,000. The bill aimed to prioritize immigrants based on their skills while safeguarding American workers’ job opportunities. While the bill was not passed, it was unveiled at a high-profile ceremony at the White House.
Cotton’s endorsement adds to the growing list of Republican senators and officials who have thrown their support behind Trump’s candidacy. Senators such as JD Vance, Marsha Blackburn, Rick Scott, Josh Hawley, Eric Schmitt, Lindsey Graham, and others have expressed their backing for Trump. Additionally, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott have also endorsed Trump. In total, Trump has received endorsements from seven governors, 18 GOP senators, and more than 90 House Republicans as he continues to be a dominant figure in the GOP field, enjoying strong support in polls and key endorsements.
