Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and others explained how raising the debt ceiling would give Republicans leverage in the upcoming spending fight to counteract President Biden’s agenda along with other woke policies.
Prior to this week’s crucial vote on the Fiscal Responsibility Act, often known as the debt limit legislation, Stefanik, Jordan, and Greene talked with Breitbart News.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the proposed legislation would reduce the deficit by $1.5 trillion over the next ten years.
The Republican legislators explained that the debt ceiling bill includes a vital Republican provision, drafted by Thomas Massie (R-KY), a member of the Rules Committee, designed to automatically pass a continuing resolution with a one percent overall federal government cut if Congress does not pass the 12 separate appropriations bills, as required by the Constitution.
According to Stefanik, the Appropriations Committee already has been tasked with locating “waste, fraud, and abuse” inside the United States government, and the appropriations procedure would enable Republicans to take on the “deep state.”
She outlined a few strategies Republicans should use to stop funding Biden’s woke goals and slow down an out-of-control government.
“The appropriations procedure may also be used to deter the politicized FBI and DOJ from illegitimately pursuing law-abiding Americans. I am a member of the Intel Committee as well as the Select Committee on the Federal Government’s Weaponization,” Stefanik added. “And one of our best instruments for ensuring that we are defending Americans’ constitutional rights is the appropriations process. We can also stop agencies from imposing ESG [Environment, Social, and Governance] programs that jeopardize the retirements of our seniors and stop the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) agency from penalizing law-abiding citizens who own guns, which is crucial to all of us on this call as ardent Second Amendment supporters.”
Greene defended the Fiscal Responsibility Act, saying that she had first been hesitant to support it but that the appropriations power was “special.”
Republicans have the ability to block funding for the planned new FBI headquarters via the appropriations process, according to the Georgia Republican who sits on the Weaponization Select Committee in addition to the Coronavirus Select Committee. She pointed out that Republicans may use upcoming budget bills to attack Anthony Fauci’s lucrative federal retirement program and stop the federal government from paying for new “unnecessary” coronavirus vaccinations.
“This is the first time the debt limit has been raised when we have really cut down on expenditure,” according to Jordan.
Jordan said that Republicans will be able to stop Senate Democrats and the White House from approving another omnibus spending measure because of the appropriations incentives. According to Breitbart News, the $1.7 trillion omnibus package was loaded with pork-barrel projects, earmarks, and $45 billion in assistance for Ukraine.
